Spec Differences

Hi guys - I'm a newbee to this forum and looking to buy my first Disco 3 TDV6. Has anyone posted a comparison between the previous and current model specs? I want to compare S/SE/HSE to GS/XS etc. and any help would be much appreciated.

The only place to buy a nearly new low mileage D3 seems to be a dealer and prices seem vary considerably between Southern and Northern dealers - is is gread, lazy buyers or astute dealers?

Are there any build quality issues that mean I need to make sure a nearly new vehicle has not been returned as unsatisfactory by a previous owner?

Thanks in anticipation

Robin

Hi, and welcome.
From my experience I'd recommend an 06 onwards, the build and component quality is better.

Basic specs were

Base 5 (became GS)= 5 Seater and coil springs, no air suspension or Terrain response, 17" alloys

Base 7 (became GS)= 7 Seater with air suspension and TR, 17" alloys

S (became XS)= As above + 18" Alloys, Rear PDC, heated screen and seats, front foglights, Harmon Kardon audio with 6 CD, cruise control, headlamp wash

SE (stayed as SE) = As S + Leather power seats, + Sat Nav + 10-Spoke 18" Alloys

HSE (stayed as HSE) = As SE + Xenon adaptive lights, Standard Auto box, full glass Alpine Roof, premium Sat Nav with off-road info, front PDC, Logic 7 surround sound, phone PTI on later models.

Some features changed depending on year and I may have missed a few bits but this is basically it.

Good list CFB.

Does anybody know the reasons why the names were changed from 7 seat to GS and S to XS? Confused

I look like a bit of an anorak really Embarassed having said that I have owned 4 D3's in under 2 years Whistle

I guess the name change was to fall in line with the Freelander 2 badging and it never made sense to call the entry model a 'base' it cheapened it IMO.

I agree with the 'base' label. That XS and GS used to always confuse me. X is higher than G in the alphabet so must be a higher spec... I guess Rolling Eyes

Mind you, I still call it an S and a base 7 seater Wink Confused

I thought the 5 seater base was still called a base, GS only applies to the 7 seater Confused

Spec does vary depending on MY too

The base 5 seater (coil sprung and without TR I believe?) is still called the 5-seat.

The base 7 seater (air sprung with TR but still lower than an S?) is called the GS now.

I think.

I bought a late 06MY D3 recently - for the same vehicle (HSE) age and mileage I saved around 2K buying it in NE England rather than SE

Good thing I live here in America... we only have 2 models, the SE and HSE (nwood's oddity notwithstanding).

But of course they have different options than the ones overseas.
