Heated Front Windsreen
I recently took my D3 HSE back to Perry of Luton for warranty rectification. One of the issues I raised with them was that some of the front screen heating elements were not operating. When I collected the car in the evening the Service Receptionist told me that a replacement screen was on order.
Whilst explaining this to my 8 year old son the following day on the way to football he looked at the front screen closely and told me that there were no elements installed in the centre of the windscreen. I checked for my self and sure enough there's an are approximately 5mm wide with no elements fitted. Can other owners with heated screens confirm that the screens installed to their cars are of similar manufacture? Interestingly whilst looking at the handbook, this tells me that the screen is protected by 2 fuses, so I assume 1 for the left hand side and one for the right hand side.
So, is this as designed (badly) or do I have a rogue windscreen?
Any views most welcome. Thanks.D3 HSE, Stornoway grey, 2007 MY, side steps, privacy glass, door protection strips.

The screen is indeed powered in two halves. The connections are behind the internal A pillar trims on each side. There is a gap down the middle which does show as an uncleared strip on a frosty morning. Its very small and insignificant though.

It's the same on my HSE. I thought that it was a dodgy element not clearing properly, but closer view shows there's no element there. I guess it's because the screen is heated through two halves to reduce the overall load or something perhaps?
Still, when I use the clear front screen button thingy, then the mixture of tornado winds and the heated screen seems to clear it PDQ. Haven't had a winter in it yet though, so we'll have to see.
A bit bizarre that the LR dealer didn't already know..... (I'd say it would be more embaressing for them as they sell/service them all day long!)
I think the screen is split into 4 zones. I recently had mine changed when I reported that the outside 25% of the heated screen was not working.TDV6 SE auto, Java / Alpacca
