I don't think the thread needs to be locked, but the forum users need to understand the mods have to try and please everyone, which is never going to happen.
There have been lots of threads locked, and "tidied" for no apparent reason though...My D3 Build Thread

The moderators job would be easier if people were not so easily offended and felt the need to click the red triangle at every opportunity. I sometimes wonder how these people manage in the real world
I for 1 never clicked the red triangle, I'm not a grass.
But if you had read the post and had or have a dog yourself I don't think you would have found it in the least bit funny.
I think there is a definite line between funny and offensive, this post was downright offensive, well to any dog owners/lovers.
I'm all for the great job the moderators do on here.
If you want them to leave all the posts on lets do it for a day or 2 and see what happens. NOT
There will be all sorts of slanging matches going on ,people refusing to come back so the loads of help and good advice will all dwindle away.
Then everyone to the main dealers to pay over the top prices for this that and the other.
I personally really appreciate the help, advice stories banter etc that I get from this site.
Keep up the good work
Ps I manage fine in the real world thank you D3 57 xs Stornaway grey
D2 02 commercial silver gone but a great servant and won't be forgotten
Thera no need to lock this thread, that happens far to often, there is no slanging match, name calling, defamatory comments, racial abuse or anything close to that on it.
It is a question of understanding how the forum is moderated, like those above, I think we all appreciate the hard work undertaken in a voluntary capacity to ensure this forum, our forum as I like to think of it runs smoothly. We sport forum stickers, use a forum flag at LR shows etc and groups meet regularly to socialise, clear that it's a community.
Peoples views of the written word vary, there is no tone in a piece of text for that reason posts on here and as we all know text messages and email loose contxt at times, the OP appears to not have meant offence when he posted, the forum readers saw it another way and some obviously complained via the red triangle, yes we all need to be more tolerant and not get in a beer infused rage at the slightest thing, sometimes it can spear a pint string expertise to shut someone down, other occasions it's to prevent insult or prejudice offending.
TBH, I don't think the theres the door comment helps to calm DG, but then I guess that wasn't your aim?
Yes there are rules that we ALL have to abide by, let's not get our pants in a bunch over who said what to who
OP, I never saw the post, can comment on context, but please see it from others perspective this this morning, accept you did not get a reason, you have now

Thank you Gareth,
at least that explains why I didn't see a PM as to why, maybe as Beanie states it should be standard courtesy.
I saw 6 replies to the thread before I went to bed and some didn't see the funny side; to those folks I send my apologies , it really was a play on my wife's use of English.
Popelka,
Unfortunately it appears your funny story got lost in translation...I did see it when it was first posted and realised what you were trying to say but instead if you read it true to your word it painted a picture that you were trying to put your dog who had been very unwell into a tumble dryer machine.
Because of the way you narrated the story it read if you were being serious. As such with the majority of readers on here being dog owners and dog lovers (myself included) it was poor taste and hence I guess a number of persons complained to the moderators...
The moderators have a very difficult job to 'police' the site in order that it doesn't result in chaos and anarchy.... People in their living rooms suddenly become very opinionated and things can escalate very quickly. I'm sure this was the reason the moderators pulled it quickly as a direct response to the number of complaints.
Like most I've also had threads pulled ..in my case it was circumstances of poor taste.... Which upon reflection was the right decision to take.
Please don't take it personally...see it as a situation which was lost in the translation of languages and forget it.... Enjoy the rest of the forum...

Well it may not calm those who persistently want to question my every breath, action or very being on this site ....but they are a minority ....and they know who they are. I saw the post too, but not any comments afterwards. Have to say I agree with Farmer Chalk. To be honest if it had been written by someone who's native language is English, I could understand those who took offense. However as from Popelka's avatar it's clear he is from Czech Republic, I think most people could, or should have been able to work out it wasn't meant to be serious. If I remember rightly Popelka put a shocked emoticon at the end, which to me confirmed that he meant it as a joke. Albeit the literal reading of it was certainly in poor taste.Rich

It was in poor taste, and the fact the op had read the responses and didn't change the wording or edit the post confirms to me he knew what he had writtenIf it ain't broke... Take it apart anyway, how else you gonna find out how it works

I can't comment on the post in question (didn't see it) but I don't think it is unreasonable to ask that a person who gets a post pulled or thread locked gets notified, ideally with a reason why, either at the time or as soon after as feasible.

Humour is subjective and not everyone has the same sense of humour, the line varies from person to person but in this instance it appears the line was determined by those that shouted the loudest. Personally I can see the humour in the situation and based on the OPs location and username I can understand the potential loss in translation from a forum member that doesn't necessarily have English as a primary language.GAP IID Pro Multi Vehicle Defender L316 2007-2015 - Discovery 3 - Discovery 4 - Discovery Sport L550 - Freelander 2 - Range Rover Evoque L538 - Range Rover L322 - Range Rover L405 - Range Rover Sport L320 - Range Rover Sport L494 Electrical Fault Diagnostics

Sometimes it's just not possible as Gareth has stated...... or as in this case would just be stating the bleedin' obvious.
Where there has been no contact however site users who want to to discuss the moderation could of course contact site admin via PM to find out instead of making a big song and dance about it 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
