There's no free money - you're paying for the mileage and depreciation one way or the other.

You can either do that with your own car, which is a known quantity and a sunk cost - you've already paid a large chunk of the depreciation. And even in 2.5 years time at 140k miles will still have plenty of value.

Or you can give the money to the leasing company, let them charge you over the odds for that depreciation (starting all over again from new), and be left with nothing at the end of it.

When you hit the 5 year mark, you'll then STILL be better off running the car till it dies and forgoing the allowance. Although the new Disco 5 will be out be then...

I know but you don't live next to Steveraspberry........Steve has two new Disco's every six months and I'm afraid the little green man sits on my shoulder going 'go on, you deserve one as well'....... That's until swmbo brings me back to Earth with a bump.....

The sensible money is to keep the one that I've got for. 4 years.....but it will be then worth nothing and I'd have to start over again totally....but as by constantly topping up will keep me in a reliable new car....but paying through the nose for it...!

Just my pennies worth... I run a small business which I own so anything I do comes out of my pocket one way of another... I do space ship mileage and have drawn the following conclusions -

PCP or lease hire of any description does not work for me as they want too much each month and hit me with extra mileage charges which are a variable and I would struggle to plan for due to us being a seasonal business.

I have taken the decision to take a car on HP... run it for 5 years until the end of any finance, trade it with high mileage at the end of its term using the residual value to fund the deposit on another 2/3 yr old vehicle (never buy new when there are other people around prepared to take the initial hit).

This has worked for me on the last couple of changes and I believe will work when the time comes again... I might have to add a bit to it when the time comes, but I can 'save' for that as I can afford it with out a regular commitment.

I don't believe that lease ever works for anyone who does high mileage... I have gone from 34,000 to 93,000 in 22 months!

Cheers Hotrocks ... Really interested to hear people's viewpoints on this on what has and hasn't worked...I have considered this as well but the only fly in the ointment has been the fact that my company says vehicles can not be older than 4-5 years old....which immediately puts me on the back foot.
One of my thoughts has been to trade my Disco which is immaculate and look at a second hand new shape RRS..
Going to spend the holiday period mulling over a few ideas and get my abacus out....

If all else fails I'll keep my one....it's an outstanding vehicle!

Don't forget if you do lease then they will want the car back with no scratches or scuffs....or a penalty at the end.

Unfortunately , the milage is against you...

As many have said above, if you can, stick with your current car
An extra 120k and 3 years on your current MY13 HSE is going to cost between £20k and £25k in deprecation
To lease a car for 3 years with a milage allowance of 120k is going to cost between £30k and £35k
So about £300 a month more...

You could always put your name down for a Disco 5 due 2016..to ease the hardship Very Happy

Edited to add...lease deals only really work when there is huge manufacture support behind them (normally due to poor retail sales and over supply) ...hence why there is always cracking lease deals available on Mercedes cars etc...land rover currently can sell (retail) every car they build, hence little manufacture support to the lease companies.
