You still need a serial to OBD K-line adapter.
A USB to K-line adapter is basically a USB to serial adapter and a serial to OBD adapter all in one. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Remember the Webasto software expects to see the Webasto adapter (which is/was a serial port to WBUS adapter).
The USB KKL adapter emulates this perfectly, as they firstly emulate a COM port, and then do the same conversion to the serial communications as the Webasto adapter.
ELM adapters work in a totally different way to the KKL adapters, they aren't doing a straight serial to K line conversion. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Thanks Martin,
Thats good news to me as hopefully my FBH is not fried. I definitely know its not working as its not firing up with -4 temp and a full tank of fuel with a cold engine.
But at least if i can connect with it like I'm hoping ill be able to try and diagnose the problem..

Well some good news and some bad... It was after all the cable not being compatible, got my new one and it connected straight way with no problems well i say no problems initially the FBH showed three faults
1 Car is almost out of fuel (its not now maybe an old fault)
2 Metering Pump interruption
3 Heating unit interlocked
After clearing the codes only one is now staying, Metering Pump Interruption. This parers to be stopping the heater firing up although it goes through some cooling cycles i get no heat.
Any one had this before ?

Didn't have the metering pump fault but the fuel line was well gummed up, had to disconnect all the pipes and blow them through with an airline. Just five sessions of priming to get fuel back through.
Might be worth check the pump power cable at the same time. De-Tango
V8 Brakes
EGRs blanked
Running boards
3 flash indicators and clock on dash
Blingy grille...

See http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic59831.html
Try testing the fuel pump through the software, if no response then check for wiring faults.
Although..... did you have the 8 pin plug from the car to the FBH unplugged when doing the diagnosis? 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Thanks for the pointers guys. I manages to get it all working.
Turned out it had a few problems. The first being the power plug was disconnected from the fuel pump, it was also rusted beyond repair.
The second problem was the pump its self was unresponsive. After allot of tapping and WD40 i slowly managed to bring it back to life.
I even managed to get the built in pre heat timer to work it fired up the inside fans and also the FBH for 30 mins so all is good, for the moment anyway

Do you mean the one in the settings menu?
PS please complete your D3 information in your profile as we can't see what exact D3 (age, spec) you have... 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Take a look back on posts about this from exactly 10 years ago....
The menu item for this should no longer be on your car, it never worked when the car was asleep and was removed in an "Enhancement Programme" in 2005. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Thanks i did see the posts about it. I flashed the setting back to my instrument cluster as i wanted to experiment with it.
It works as long as the car is awake so to speak so if i have it set to come on for 0800 all i have to do is go outside a few minutes before ant turn the radio on for a few minutes and it works not ideal having to go outside but it works.
If could figure out a away to wake the car up it would be ideal its also good if your sitting in the car and want the FBH to run

Its a great bit of kit to be left not working Jake. I recon its not worked for a long long time before i owned the car.
The fuel line was bone dry and all the pins in the plug rusted to dust.
The next step is get it working remotely
