Front Differential needed ?
I have some strange sounds coming from what I guess is the front mid of the car in that above 5mph there is a distinct but not loud metallic whine/humming (if you can understand what I mean) which sounds like it is coming from behind the bulkhead added to this at 40mph there is a very distinctive droning which comes on slowly coupled with a bit of vibration coming from the area of the centre console but more towards the foot well when cruising along, the drone/vibration completely disappears when I take my foot of the accelerator, for these symptoms I am guessing it is the front diff unless somebody has any other ideas, I have changed the front left wheel bearing due to failure which cleared that fault/sound and also changed the rear prop due to centre bearing rubber collapsed (did hope that would also clear the vibration but didn't) have changed all drive train oils in "Autobox (inc sump/filter),TransBox,Diffs" all where OK except front diff which was thick, creamy and discoloured so back to guessing it's the front diff at fault.
Does anybody know the best place to get a replacement diff at a fair price, I will be fitting it myself as I have use of a proper 5T ramp.

You could either search Ebay for a good quality used diff but their all going to be an unknown and may already have issues, or buy new. Island4x4 have the front diff listed at £575 +VAT http://www.island-4x4.co.uk/differential-d...8288.html, alternatively try site sponsor MMJ.GAP IID Pro Multi Vehicle Defender L316 2007-2015 - Discovery 3 - Discovery 4 - Discovery Sport L550 - Freelander 2 - Range Rover Evoque L538 - Range Rover L322 - Range Rover L405 - Range Rover Sport L320 - Range Rover Sport L494 Electrical Fault Diagnostics

I have front diff somewhere - though it was whining, but it turned out to be the tyres! Regards,

Hi Spooky. Have you got some more info on it ? Like mileage, vehicle year, price etc. Was it one you bought to replace yours or was it out of your car. PM me if you would rather. Regards Barry

When I read your original post, it sounded like I had written it!
I have done exactly the same things to fix the same noises, apart from the front diff. That had a fair amount of metal filings on the magnetic sump plug when I changed the oil.
Did you change the diff, and did it fix the problem?
