Bought for £12k at 8 years old from private sale, 98k on the clock.
2 years on it may be worth £6k as a trade in, maybe £9-10k private with all the work done on it. 130k on clock.
Don't intend on selling it though. In loving memory of FA54WSK.
Rest well old friend, your work is done.

I too bought for £12k at 6 yrs old w. 126k on the clock. Probably worth less than half that now at 8 yrs old with 150k miles.
Despite what it has and will cost the more miles it covers the better value it gets.VR6 > 330D Touring > D3 HSE > !?XC90?!

Seeing as I'm a tight wad, I never pay more than 10k for a vehicle, that includes the d3 that had 90k on the clock 2 years ago and the g4 d2 before it, less to depreciate
I've kept track of every penny spent on the G4......it works out at £1.62 per mile

All these figures are a misconception nobody has lost anything on their vehicles I can never understand owners who have traveled 100+ thousand mile in a vehicle over all types of terrain, towed a trailer, horse box or caravan with up tp 7 people on board and then say they have lost x thousand pounds in depreciation.
It is what it has cost to travel x thousand miles, not how much the vehicle has depreciated in value
Depreciation has to be taken in to consideration when looking at the total cost of ownership and in the case of Discovery's when buying from new they form a fairly large chunk of the overall cost.
I know us Discovery owners tend to be biased but there other vehicles out there that will cover all of the above for less money. Probably not in such a refined pleasant manor but you pays your money and takes your choice as they say.
As retirement looms ever closer I'm trying to tick both boxes, drive a nice Discovery on a smaller budget, so far it's paid off, but as we all know D3's have a habit of chucking the toys out every so often Discovery 4 HSE
