A D4 should always feel better than a D3, simply because it's newer and will probably have covered far less miles, meaning it's components have suffered far less stress.

I had 2 D3's from new ... the D4 from new was distinctly different ...I'm not sure your argument stacks up Wink

I made negative comments regards my D3's vague and imprecise steering, the car was excellent apart from that. This was an issue that LR dealt with on the 07MY vehicle as stated previously. An update which improved the D3. My point is that most of the updates made to the D4 improved what was an already great vehicle. Power, handling, gearbox and interior are better IMO. I never considered the D3 to be poo and neither did anyone else in the thread. My car was serviced to within an inch of it's life with all the preventative measures being taken like belts and bushes so nothing felt loose or particularly worn out despite covering 105,000 miles of relatively trouble free driving.
The D4 feels more complete a car than the D3 but this again should be expected due to ongoing development of the marque. There is eight years of development between the two Disco's that I have had the privilege to drive and if there hadn't been what I perceived to be a big improvement, I wouldn't have spent the hard earned to buy one. Thumbs Up

I remember the day I picked up my first D3 - 29/11/04, I felt like I was driving a smooth, high tech, space ship! It was so futuristic, and so different to anything that had been produced by LR.

Now I have a 2013 D4 which I got new 18 months ago. the D4 driving experience is much improved over the D3, which itself was not too shabby in any area.

I think LR have got the model progression just about right. I also think the earliest D3's still look fantastic, and are ageing well.

Two things I miss from my D3 - first is the passenger in-dash cupholder. Why they got rid of that I have no idea. Second, is the tray in front of the sat nav screen, now replaced with a useless curved piece of shiny trim. Confused

+1

Also the storage area around the gear stick, which has got even worse from MY2014 (with the eco stop/start mode) Sad

For such a large vehicle, the storage space for stuff for passengers is very limited (boot excepted as being cavernous of course).

A few years ago I looked to change my old D3 for a new D4. I got a good trade in value for mine but the cost of change was £42k on a cash purchase.

I had a demo D4 for two days but when I got back into mine and had a good look around, I thought am I getting £42k worth of additional value? Answer was no. Yes it was a nice interior, although not as practical, the engine was a little sweeter, but nothing mind blowing over my remapped, deCatted Allisport lump and it handled a little sharper, but it still wasn't enough to warrant the cost of change. What I did do was spend £1500 to face lift mine because I wanted to freshen it up.

At the end of the day they both share the same body, a derivative of the same engine and mechanicals and do the same job. Three years on and I don't regret it, in fact I put that £42k into my pension pot and bought some Apple shares.......... Very Happy
