Cam belt replacement

New to this forum but a seasoned LR Owner.
I am in Sussex and the Disco is just over 100k miles and a March 08 car so I need to get the belts done and by all the feedback from this forum the oil pump and housing etc?

I have read that there are some seasonal offers from Dealers, but also some excellent local independent mechanics?

Any advice and recommendations and if possible approx costs greatly appreciated.

Joe

If you're looking for a main dealer service, Stratstones do the 105k service plus the timing belts for £599 which is a pretty good price (for a main dealer). My local indie is very good but charges a lot more than that.

Knowing Stratstones like I do, they would slap another £599 on that, to include the oil pump etc. as well though...... Laughing

Thanks for the quick responses. It has already had a recent service, so I just need the belts and I think the casings that fracture that has been pointed out on this forum.

Stratstones did both my belts for £599 all in. Great job and I think very well priced especially as they will back it up if they screw it up

That sounds like a good deal?
Do you know if they acknowledge the oil pump casing issue which is relevant to my model year and offer the re worked casing as an extra?
I know they are a main dealer and stand up to their work but by all accounts if you get the belts done and not this oil pump casing part you are very likely to have a catastrophic failure and probably a dealer that will shrug his shoulders?

Which Stratstones did you use?

Bury Stratstones in the North West so not local to you im afraid

I would think that if the housing is visably flawed they would advise, but as its usually a casting problem, it would make sense to fork out and get it done whilst they are in the throws of doing the belts as the majority of the cost of the job is labour and they would be well into that area so probably only a little extra time plus the cost of the part.
Prevention and peace of mind is better than disaster Thumbs Up
