The same old "broken key in towbar" question.

Well it had to happen sometime Big Cry

The key snapped off in the towbar yesterday.

So, how do you replace it?

I read a couple of months ago that Martin didn't want anybody putting the answer on the forum for obvious reasons, so could someone pm me the video/pdf file please.

Thanks.

They don't weigh much so I am sure Dan at Duckworths can send you one if you do not have a main dealer at hand.

I don't think anyone will tell/send you instructions on how to do it. But if you do as Robbie suggested and buy a new lock assembly from a 'Main' dealer or one of our forum sponsor main dealers all will become apparent, 10 min job to fix Thumbs Up

My tow bar hasn't been off since long before I acquired the vehicle judging by the lump of corroded metal that used to be the lock, which incidentally I don't have a key for.

If I buy a new lock will it still be easy to do or should I just leave it on?

And don't leave it on. It's so easy to take off and put on plus read the posts on here about tow-bar detachment. Most of them, I'm convinced, are due to people leaving the tow-bar on all the time and corrosion stopping lock-up occurring correctly.
I always take mine off when not towing and give it regular squirts of lube (round the lock and locking bar not the towball Shocked )

Thanks guys.

Managed to get the new lock the following day but only got around to fitting today.

A genuine part, no instructions but an easy fix Smile

Didn't want to get anybody into trouble though Sad
