Norfolk must have some hills

Second journey away in our caravan and trip computer gave journey of 240 miles and a return of 20.2mpg

Not much left from a full tank - I wasn't expecting great mpg but thought it might be bit higher (computer said 26mpg on journey from Northampton to Chelmsford when I bought it)

I've been averaging 27mpg when towing Coachman Pastiche 535/4 with D3. Just done a 230mile round trip solo and got 34.1mpg, admittedly I tend to have light right foot steady 65-75mph when driving the Disco.
 Joined Aug 2014. Disco 3 SE 54plate, Buckingham Blue, Cream leather.
Defender 90 200Tdi (weekend toy)

I find that to use 6th gear I have to be hitting at least 60 with or without tintent. Obviously with tintent that can sometimes be wobbly overtaking 56mph Artic's Shocked

My D3 could be changed up manually at 41mph into sixth gear and returned about 32mpg keeping the revs down but made the journey a bit OCD. I learned to put up with low MPG until I suffered juddering in 2nd gear, I stuck some Dr Tranny in and the MPG went up to 31mpg in normal auto. Didn't last too long though and eventually returned to normal after a month or so. Towing I got about 22mpg.
My D4 has just towed my 1900kg tintent to the Black Forest which was about 1500 miles and retuned an average of 23.5 towing at about 70 all the way but could be improved by slowing down. Solo it did about 29.
These cars were not really built for economy and 2.5 tons doesn't move without a great deal of effort, I think we have to live with it to enjoy all the positives the car brings.

Never really take any notice of the solo figure but was interested in the towing figure so reset before I left home on the Friday

Was quite windy on Sunday coming home and noticed that the gearbox quite often changed down but didn't notice at all on Friday going.
