Bike Rack Question

Looking to transport 3 bikes. What's the best way of installing a bike rack without causing body damage if you don't have a tow bar?

Thought about using the roof rack, but then you need a ladder to reach the bikes. Does any one have any ideas?

I've used one like this on my D4 on many occasions and, while probably best suited to a hatchback, it works well and leaves all the lights and number plate free of obstruction.

There is no easy way. Either on the roof or on a tow bar is the only option I think.

If you do not have a tow bar then the easier option of the two is the roof. Depending on the bikes you have and what they are made from they are not a hassle to put up there.

Thule have some good racks for the roof and you just need to buy the bars and foot pack. They come up for sale on here sometimes.

I carried four bikes on the roof of mine over the summer, using Thule racks and roof bars:

I use a hop up ladder like this to help get them up there (and drop it to access height), which folds up neatly and fits in the boot:

With this, it's a doddle, even for my relatively heavy electric bike.

Incidently, if buying multiples of the Thule bike racks, the cheapest I could find them was a Ford parts site.

Or ebay have hundreds of them on there too.

To be honest they cant really get damaged and can save a fortune than buying new ones. some people sell them as multiples or just get individual ones.

My D3 has a tow bar so I bought a flat bed Witter bike rack which I have had 6 bikes on. It is made for 4 but some of them were kids bikes so not as heavy.

I like the idea of the tow bar mounted ones but it wasn't an option for me:

Thanks. Looks like a roof rack and ladder is the option for me.

I've gone for a roof setup and bought some whispbars, great quality.
