On the D2 I have some fitted inline using 2 x ANDERSON (350 Amp) connectors, I think they are 20' long and they use 70mm2 welding cable I think. Very good, very easy to use and I don't even need to pop the bonnet on the D2, only issues is they are VERY heavy.

Going to fit a set to the D3 but might use 50mm2 cable and a shorter run.

They come with a storage bag. Look very Clarke-like.

Remember to be really careful with uninsulated clamps like those above - they can be rather scary!

Hi Robbi and your info is always good and while thick jumper leads obviously work, but so do much thinner cables.

If you carry out a jump start properly in the first place, 6B&S ( yank 13.5mm2 ) or 16mm2 cables will easily start the same vehicles much thicker cables will start.

The trick, that most people do not do, is to connect to the disabled vehicle and then let the donor vehicle idle for 2 to 5 minutes, then start the disabled vehicle’s motor.

If it’s a flat battery that caused the start failure, you will have no problem starting.

But even when you have a cranking battery with a dropped cell, by allowing the donor vehicle to “charge” the disabled vehicle’s battery, even with a dropped cell, you will create a surface charge in the faulty battery.

Then when you go to start the motor on the disabled vehicle, even the faulty battery will contribute to the current needed to start the motor.

Good quality clamps or connections are more important than the size of the cable.

I have 50 amp Anderson plugs fitted to all batteries, in vehicles or those just sitting around my workshop, and I have a set of clamps wired to a 50 amp Anderson plug and have never had a problem starting any vehicle using the connection via the 50 amp Anderson Plugs.

Length of the cable is an advantage, especially as most people park nose first into the garages.

BTW on one occasion, I have used two 10 metre lengths of 4mm2 cables ( WIRES ) to jump start a tractor bogged in a paddock.

I won a good bet on that day but I also left the donor vehicle idle for over 30 minutes, to get enough of a surface charge in the tractor’s battery, to allow it to start itself from it own battery.

Hi Tim, all good advice.

Actually having them with you is also a good tip. I have a rattle free set from Halfords stashed in old laptop slips in the D4 rear cubby.

Need to buy a replacement set for the workshop as I have just trashed a set through stupidity.

the Halfrauds ones shown

the top of he heap ones...are substantial enough power wise....& long enough to jump start a disco with donor car at the rear strategically parked.
However the plastic clip shrouds do slip off aft a few uses ....mine are now araldited in place.
 BREXIT - done properly.

I'd be disappointed if the plastic fell off after a few uses. Did you consider taking them back for an exchange?

they didn't fall off....

they sort of loosened & slipped back...this means the metal of the whole clip is exposed....
all the others in Halfrauds were the same so just glued them in place...simple fix
I could contend with the way they were ...but others in family may use them...not realising the issue / risk

I had to buy these in haste some two years back...but looking around there are many that are as heavy duty or length.....you just dont see them on sale

the glue worked perfectly...its stayed in place

& I would urge all who have these to have a good look & see if the plastic shroud things are loose & can/ could leave exposed clips

I always have a tube of Araldite rapid around & in each car....useful emergency fix
