Gracenote recognition updating my2012
Over the last few days I've been in correspondence with LR Customer services, who in turn have been speaking to LR Technical about updating the Gracenote Recognition Database for the Discovery hard drive....
LR spoke to Gracenote, who supplied them with their very latest updates and tried it on a '64 plate Full Fat,where the software update was accepted, but when they tried it on a Discovery my2012 with the same infotainment system as mine it wouldn't accept the update.
I'm not sure if anyone has tried it on a later Discovery, but it looks like were stuck with burning CD's from iTunes if you want artist and track recognition for more recent releases "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

ISTR there were some changes to the system gen for the 13MY Euan ...might explain why it won't take 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

That would make sense.....my '54 plate A6 had a recognition system, but also had the ability to manually input unrecognised CD's,remembering them every time you put them back in.....it was a good system and simple to use (if you could be ar$ed to manually input the info)
LR customer services said they would keep me posted of any software changes. I suppose as more cars go out of warranty and leave the umbrella of the Dealerships, they'll be less likely to push for software updates from companies outwith LR themselves "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

The plot thickens....played a CD in the car for the first time today....it was released in October last year, and the hard drive recognised it,downloading the album name and individual tracks.....so I went out and put in the original album that first got me wondering about updating the Gracenote archive, and once again it failed to recognise it.....
If the hard drive can't be updated, how did it recognise a reasonably newly released album over one from a while ago.....curious "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

I wondered if they had somehow updated the software,or hard drive database,on one of my last visits to the dealer.....I thought LR themselves had tried it,so I was a bit surprised when the Service Manager came over to tell me he was sorry they couldn't update it .....
I was happy with the explanation, until today, when it recognised a fairly new release....
More digging I think "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

I would too....but it's always refused to play nice with my Ipod Classic .....I've downloaded a load to a Kingston USB Data Traveller, and it's happy with that,I'm just a bit confused about today's CD upload "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Just out of interest, has there been any update on this? I can't really see why it shouldn't be possible to update the Gracenote database - even if JLR were to make a charge for it !D4 MY14 XXV - RLD/IID BT

From my anecdotal testing (not on my Disco which is MY10), but on another system, some CD's have the track listing encoded as it always should have been on the CD (the music companies rarely bothered), so there is a chance that your later CD that you put in actually had the album/track listings encoded on the CD, hence your Disco displayed it correctly, not that it read it from the Gracenote database.
Browsing the net, some say only 1 in 8 CD's have the album/track listing encoded as it should be, hence why we have Gracenote now.
