Various issues with 2010 D4 HSE…. Is it just me???

Hi all

So Im new to the forum and new to owning a Landrover Disco 4 HSE, As we have 3 kids under 5 fitting the car seats in the Jaguar XF just wasn't safe and after much crying and deliberation decided to trade her in for the Disco 4, Have I made the correct decision well so far NO would be the answer. Now even though stratstone are looking after us Im not happy. Don't get me wrong its not a new car its on a 2010 plate but at a cost of just short of 30k I'm unipressed.

First the panoramic roof has a crack the glass is less than a month old so thats being repaired the rear seatbelt is faulty.

The alarm keeps going off for no apparent reason.

And to today the cover fell of the passenger side power fold mirrors and Ive noticed the drivers side mirror hits the window surely this isn't correct as the passenger side doesn't so which is wrong???

fed up is an understatement Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

Jag took the car to land rover the glass is being repaired and the seat belt replaced thankfully I've a 12 month warranty I've a feeling it will be getting hammered….

Glass can break, alarm is probably the bonnet catch, mirror does fold against the glass on one side. Sorry that the warranty does not sooth your nerves.

Perhaps you could sell it via the forum and buy something else?

If the roof has cracked in less than a month and nothing has been dropped on it I would suspect that it was not fitted properly in the first place and that may be the fitter left a shard of glass in place. I would go back to the glass company.
As has been said the alarm may well be the bonnet catch, easy to prove, disconnect and short out with a piece of wire and run like that for a couple of days to see if it cures the issue.

Apparently the glass was fitted correctly but when the furniture was re-attached something was overtightned and cracked glass i suspect someone thought if they say nothing they'll get away with but its being replaced now. Oh I see with reference to the fold mirrors so one travels more than the other that seems stupid the Jag would close and open at the same speed.

Ive tried the bonnet and had it adjusted twice but keeps going off the weird thing is it only seems to happen when the misses has had the car I'm thinking when she is locking the car using the handle she's pressing it too quick and maybe the car thinks something is open?? we never use the hand brake just put it in park could that do anything???

Jag Stratstone have been great with us as usual Im sure the warranty will be ok like it was with the Jag just annoying to have to keep going back to Jag Stratstone with more faults…

I was told today they think it may have been a fitter putting back on the furniture i.e. the the rails and has over tightened something and then when car has been drives its cracked it….. not sure if its true but its being replaced in next few days I've said it better not crack again in a few hours.. i only had car 90 mins before noticing it…

quick question with regards to replying can't i use more than one quote as i click quote button i can't had a second quote cheers….

Could be low battery.
My 2011 D4 had been sitting around or doing short journeys over the last couple of months. Alarm was going off 2 or 3 times per day, but only for about 3 seconds each time.
I measured the battery reading as low, and so I put it on the CTEK charger and it's been fine since.

Not sure how much life will be left in a 2010 battery if it's not been changed out in the near past.

Mmmmmmmmm could be thats something I've not considered only thing is the alarm keeps going until you go out and unlock it. Sometimes if you use the fob it takes awhile to go off…

It doesn't help your situation, but it's not the fault of your D4, it's down to poor preparation by the dealer you purchased from, all these problems should ave been rectified by the dealer before you collected it.
Problem is your dealer, having bought from them once, I feel that you have to do the PDI, then take it back to be rectified. Crying or Very sad

Totally agree with above, Dealer had to get it sent up from nottingham and to be fair admitted he never checked the glass in roof so fair one and being replaced these other things have just serviced and to be fair they have tried to fix alarm and ashen i said about the DRL's they put it to scandanavian setting and back again after i didn't like it lol…..

hope your right Stephenw46 i could do with some fault free happy motoring, its just a shame my experience has been spoilt…. but hopefully all will be well soon…. ill post up some pics soon….

Neither of my mirrors get anywhere near the glass either.

As for the other problems, it is unfortunate and I can certainly see how it would leave you feeling annoyed. I am very particular and haven't been very happy with problems suffered with previous new cars I have purchased, so I wasn't too impressed when my used Discovery had some issues.

I think I was a little more tolerant of them on this occasion one because it was a used car and two because I had always liked and wanted a Land Rover, so I think that helped me. Perhaps you are missing your XF which might not be helping how you now feel about the Discovery?

Interesting. I have routine access to 4 D4s if I include my own and the dealer loan car does this too. I'll look into it now that I know that it is not universal. I'll have a look at the neighbour's MY15 too.

Thumbs Up

Do you mean that the mirror housing actually touches the side window? My 2010 certainly doesn't do that.

Yes that's right, you can do this if you build up your multi-quote reply in a separate browser window, cut and paste.

On my Full Fat (not the same I know) this was the body tilt sensor, not the bonnet sensor in the end.
