Do you think I might need planning permission !!

Always fancied a spot of winter caravanning, so this year we've put our new van on a seasonal pitch not far from home and plan to spend some time in it over Christmas/New year and hope we get some snow Thumbs Up

Trouble now is that we keep on extending it Rolling Eyes even the dogs have now got thier own bedroom extension and fenced off compound - what do you think, there is an 8m long caravan in there somewhere Rolling with laughter

allforus, it's a really nice quiet little site in the grounds of a stately home in South Leicestershire with 800 acres to walk/fish in on the river Avon. Best thing is that its literally within a couple of miles of the M6/M1/A14 & A5 close to the Catthorpe Interchange. PM me if you need more detail Thumbs Up

Actually we were on that pitch in front of us for a couple of months which was great as its wider, but some flash Censored has ordered a brand new 40' Winnebago 5th wheeler with slide outs on both sides, so the site asked us to move back a pitch Crying or Very sad

So, silly question time - maybe...

Winter camping like that, do you still use the awning and use portable gas/electric heaters?

How about cooking will you use the van or will you have a kitchen setup outside and cook in the awning?

Just interested in the logistics of winter camping as we've not done any and found Easter could still get quite chilly Smile

dubbs, we plan to use the awning as much as possible in winter just as you would in summer. I've bought 2 ceramic heaters which should hopefully take the chill off. These new caravans now have a proper 'wet' central heating system with radiators, just like you have at home, which are much more efficient and controllable than the blown air systems so the van will be really toasty. I can even turn the heating on from my iPhone before we get to the van Wink

I did just buy a new calor portable gas heater for the awning with an oxygen depletion system, but I'm strongly advised by members on here not to use it on safety grounds and to be honest I'm not prepared to risk it.

So I guess winter caravanning involves plenty of warm clothing when in the awning or if it gets too cold - get in the car and go home Wink

We camp in the winter and have done a few Christmases away in the van, it is great as most peolpe decorate the caravan/awning and pitch with christmas decorations and trees. Only issue we had first time round was water freezing in container but we now have an inside tank and we also have a jacket for the outside tank.
Only other issue was the amount of snow one year on the awning caused a few issues, now take an extendable broom to sweep it off.

Russell, A mate of ours uses a low voltage fish tank heater which he puts in his Aquaroll and a thermal jacket to prevent it freezing Thumbs Up Apparently the biggest problem on our site is that the whole water mains freezes at the taps so we've been advised to bring water from home just in case. I think I'll take extra alcohol instead. Rolling Eyes
