600kg in the boot ?
A friend is picking up boat engine parts weighing approximately 600kg,and asked if that is ok in the back of a Discovery....I'm out and about and don't have the manual on me (before anyone asks) so a quick answer would be great "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool,than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

The car will cope just fine.
Legality is something else.
Examples:
For the D4 (air suspension) the max weight of the vehicle is 3240kg.
If your curb weight is say 2600kg, you weigh 80kg and your passenger weighs 70kg and you have 10kg of sundries around the car then you have a maximum load available of 480kg.
But you must also not exceed the individual axle loads too (1855kg rear / 1450kg front).
For a D3 HSE the typical weights are:
Max GVW = 3230kg
Kerb weight = 2718kg (incl full tank of fuel)
Difference = 512kg
So assuming only you in the vehicle and you weigh 80kg then the load you can carry = (512-80kg) = 432kg.
The plate under the bonnet should have the weights for your vehicle as they do vary. The sharp-eyed amongst you will see that 7 blokes @ 80kg would be 570kg…. Others have carried considerably more!

And if you do stick a bit too much in the back, at least it doesn't sit witht he rear tyres rubbing the wheel arches
