Options & Other Bits

Hi Folks,

Lurker for a while, decided I'd break cover & actually post something.

Currently in the (long haul, for me at this point) process of looking around to buy a new Disco 4 after promising myself I would for the past lord knows how many years. I'm now in the position where I am just about to come into some cash which would help this little project!

Obviously, I'm looking to save as much as I can on the purchase of a new vehicle & you can take as 'given' that I will be screwing whichever dealership I end up with down to a good deal - on that note, anyone care to share the dealerships with business sense to cut deals? I've been in business for 14 years so I drive a hard bargain Smile

Having done a ton of digging around on the t'intertubes I know that some of the options on the D4 aren't strictly 'options' they are just software config items, like the timed climate, voice control etc. My question at this point really is this. What options require physical intervention of some kind to enable & which ones can just be turned on in software later for a fraction of the cost of what a dealer would try & take?

Obviously things like the fridge (which I would find v.useful with my penchant for sweets - which tend to get stuck together in the car!!) are physical options. I wouldn't mind the TV function too, because I spend a ton of time sitting around on sites waiting for people & actually it would be quite handy. Not sure if that is 'there' in every system & just a software switch on job or what.

This will probably be the only time I get to buy a new Disco in my life, so I'm happy to spend a few quid extra for bells & whistles but I don't want to be giving people more money for a software configuration option than I have to.

Anyway, I defer to the much more learned people of this form for some advice & thank you in advance for any help you can offer to me.

Someone with a Faultmate MSV2 or similar will come along soon to answer your secondary points I reckon.

Thanks Bill & Paul Smile

Yes, I imagine someone with the gadgetry will give me a whole list. I'm very familiar with the OBDII stuff & to some extent CANBUS, the latter not in a car though - long story.

In reality I may invest in something like a Faultmate or IIDTool in the long run, purely because, well, I'm a geek at heart. I've found having some form of diagnostics kit to hand invaluable in the past, such as when my current truck went into 'lets flash lots of pretty lights at him' mode 300 miles from home. I managed to get the fault sorted myself & get it back home thanks to having the cable & laptop in the car.

That said, even if I did get something of my own kit wise here, I'd probably still put the business the way of one of the more experienced & knowledgable people of this forum to make any config changes - its worth it for the wealth of knowledge which comes with the person.

@Bill - Got your PM & will reply shortly Smile

Most things come enabled on the D4 when compared to the D3 where we liked to turn on 3-flash, rear follow-me-home lights etc etc.

Out of the 2 you mention CC is enabled on virtually all D4s and timed climate, when factory ordered, comes with additional pipes and a valve to heat the cabin alone. It can be enabled on vehicles without the extra gubbins but heat will be lost as it travels around the engine block. I ordered remote timed climate as a factory extra as it worked out cheaper than doing it myself.
