Although I am directly involved with the donations and my opinion may seem biased but I did think it was a very novel way of calming down a long running thread that could have just been locked forever.
Many thanks for the PR DG and thanks to all those for the donations.

Gents can I just reiterate a point from earlier in this thread....DG took an unusual step to diffuse tensions which were running high again on the Scottish Independence thread.A certain animosity, which seemed to have dissipated, reappeared again, and the thread was locked after further warnings were ignored
DG took the opportunity for a bit of good-natured fundraising for the H4H trek that myself,Brian T and Ent did ....it was all above board, there was no "inner sanctum" or funny handshakes involved ....all the money was donated voluntarily and with good grace, for a good cause.
It would have taken many pages of reading of the independence thread to understand why it was locked, but I can assure you it was justified
I hope there is no lasting bad feeling,it was all done in the best interests of harmony on this forum, and with the best of intentions "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

I think I was the first to follow DG's link to the H4Htrek thread and make a donation. No pressure on me at all and I'm certainly no member of any inner sanctum, Westminster Elite or even David Ickes Lizard Elite (well, not that I can say).
I just took it in the spirit it was intended, bit of light relief after a sometimes fraught Independence thread and a clever way of raising a bit of extra cash for a worthy cause. I was just happy to donate.Arthur.
Comedy was a horse, Harvey a dog, both sadly gone. Thought I was choosing a password!

I missed the point/reference/cause
Just a tad peed that wanted to say something and thread locked (at odds with principle of a forum) yet had dipped in and out a, somewhat volatile at times, thread of previous days/weeks.....
If explained, in reeeeaaaalllly simple terms in future so I can understand it I may even chuck a quid or two in myself.......
I have had the talking to and the 'rules' explained to me so I'll now wind me neck back in

I missed it at the time. Just made a donation anyway. Well done guys!
AB - Not driven by a desire to unlock a thread at all. This was initiated in really good taste, and thank you DG for a light hearted way to focus people's attention on what really matters.Justin
