Yes, go ahead. If you fancy getting a few people together choose a day and see who wants to go with you.

The good thing about green laning is it's open to everyone.

The bad thing is that large groups (more than 4-6 vehicles) are a problem so I'm quite happy if only 2 or 3 people want to come on the 26th. If too many people turn up it could be a problem splitting into groups and having enough navigators.

If there's enough interest (which it looks like there could be), someone could try to organise something more ambitious for more people, possibly a weekend with camping etc. However that would require a lot of planning to be able to split up in to small groups and coordinate where everyone goes.

Ok, let's scrap that day, who's on for the 26th? Very Happy

I'm very interested for the 26th; if it would be suitable for a absolutely standard Disco4 on General GTs?

I do not know the area other than having an OS map so would need lots of additional information, so it is probably better done by someone local and knowlegable. Whistle

Most of the lanes are gravel or rocky, so GGT's should be fine provided they've got some tread on them. I'm not planning anything extreme (my car is standard apart from the RLD sump guard and AT tyres) so you should be fine but might need to take extra care on the most rocky bits.

PM me if you want to come. Thumbs Up

So, so far on the 26th, we've got:

Me
beasty
Disco dazboy
stevehall (depending on family developments)
Wollemi - to be confirmed

That's enough for one group (need to keep groups small on public lanes), if there's enough interest we could add another group to go separately (provided someone is willing to act as navigator). Anyone else?

Hello, i'm new to the site and have recently purchased a D3 HSE totally standard...i think. i've been on a couple of off-road days under tuition but have never been green laning, what should I expect? I don't want anything too challenging or potentially expensive to repair!!! I could be interested in a Meet on the 26th.

Cheers

Hello and welcome. You've certainly joined the right forum to get help and information about your new car.

You're welcome to come along on the 26th, I'll pm you later with more details (I think you need another post before you can pm).

Green laning should be a nice day out enjoying the countryside using unsurfaced roads, hopefully without damaging the road or the vehicle. The route I'm planning on the 26th should be fine for a standard discovery but there is always some risk of wheel, tyre or underbody scrapes if you're not careful on the rocky bits. Most of the lanes I'm planning are nice and easy but there are a few interesting bits.

That's good to hear, as I am very much a novice too. Have always fancied taking the Disco (standard D4) off road but didn't know where or how.

Will my old coil sprung disco have enough clearance on the tricky bits?

I don't know how much less clearance you have without air suspension. All the bits are avoidable with an on-road diversion if you want to skip bits or you could park up and ride along with someone and we can loop back to your car.

I have driven the most challenging bits before in an Isuzu Trooper without problems but that was a long time ago and I haven't seen the lanes for a good few years so I'm not sure how they drive at the moment.
