I'm in Spain twice in October Wink other than that, the 'self tune' kit is still work in progress - hopefully to be released soon once the software issues have been sorted and the system has proved to be stable and reliable

hmmm.....where exactly in Spain will you be?

Can you give any more details on the self-tune kit? I assume it won't look like a 1W resistor with two leads soldered to it?? Whistle Laughing

Seriously though....I'm interested.... Thumbs Up

Cutting the holes

If you uses Paraffin as a coolant the blade does not clog and bind as easily.

Howzit Baben.

Just got back from a session at Melkbos 4x4 up the west coast. I managed (very easily) to rip off the front leggo piece that covers the recovery point, and the rear cover over the towing electrics and rear recovery point was hanging by one plastic clip. Rolling Eyes
I have read that these should be removed prior to going offroad, but that just seems fiddly and ridiculous. I think I am going to have to get one of the LR approved underbody plates.
One question, as mechanically challenged individual Embarassed , am I right in assuming that with my petrol V8 I won't have the same intercooler issues that you had?

I doubt you would have an intercooler, but maybe you should fit a turbo anyway Very Happy

Hi Baben.

Have you got the part number for the plate? The local guys have blank faces when scanning through the parts catalogue.

Andrew,

I also asked LR for that part and got blank stares, until I found the G4 catalogue and they were able to give me a price. Including fitment was nearly 8 grand, so I phoned Karl at BRS, who is the Mantec agent for SA, and he's got a new shipment in. He hasn't finalised costs yet but thinks around the 4.5 grand mark. Being in CT you'll have to fit it yourself but that may be a half hour job. The Mantec plate also has the intercooler holes pre-drilled.

Sorry, don't have the part number. Can phone LR Midrand if you like, otherwise give tino a call G4 outdoor is his company name

Unless you want the winch-compatible unit (as on my D3), rather fit the Mantec unit. Its not difficult to fit it yourself, just requires a little cutting of the lower bumper.

If you have the V8 the ventilation is unneccessary anyway

Howzit Rob.

LRSA have quoted me R5 800 incl. vat for the plate (part no. KRQ500010). Sounds heavy as they will still bill me to fit it. Do you know how it differs from the Mantec plate? We don't have BRS here in CT, so I will have to contact Karl and get it shipped down here. Have you got his number for me?
Anybody else in C.T. looking for a plate? We could save costs perhaps by getting a bulk order.

Baben, what kind of bumper cutting are we talking here, and does the same apply to the LR plate?

Andrew,

I stand to be corrected but both plates are made by Mantec, but the LR one is only allowed to be sold through their dealerships whereas the Mantec one is sold throught their agents, BRS (011-8344951) being one. The difference is that the LR plate has gaps for the winch (those slits), the Mantec doesn't.

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic15196-15.html for a pic of the Mantec plate.

To fit I'm sure any 4x4 place could do. I'm pretty sure both plates are the same size so both will require some cutting.

I have the winch compatible one and no cutting is required . The non winch one requires a bit of trimming of the front bumper IIRC . Both are fairly easy to fit . FWIW I went for the winch compatible one because there wasn't a huge difference in price and I didn't have to do the bumper. Also I might fit a winch later .

2 plates for CT

Andrew,
I have been looking at the plate for several months. Both winch and non-winch is Mantec plates. I quote Karl in June email to me when Mantec referred me to him. I was trying to order ex UK:
"Mantec have confirmed that while the winch compatible plate we discussed this morning is a Land Rover part & only available through franchised dealers, the standard protection plate (Images attached) is a "Mantec" part & therefore available through Mantec or their agents. A fact I was blissfully unaware of until this morning.
For your information:
Land Rover part KRQ500010 Underbody protection Discovery 3 (Winch compatable)
Mantec part 33-SPG-319/NW Underbody protection Discovery 3 (Non winch)
Recommended retail price of the guard is GBP 229.90 (Excludes freight charges, import duties, customs VAT)"

I ordered a plate from Karl, awaiting his costing.
I am in Cape Town, minus my front tupperware since June '07.
I am phoning Karl now. Send me a private messsage and we can talk.
N1 Safari Centre (Horst) said in June they will assist with fitment.

Hi AP

I sent you a PM.
Front tupperware indeed! Seems like such a flimsy cover, and why would you want to put a cover over the recovery point anyway??

I am keen to avoid the cutting if I can. Is there any reason why Mantec doesn't sell their other plate (winch version) through non Land Rover agents?!? This would not require cutting and seems the best option. Anybody understand this? Seems like an unfair marketing advantage from Land Rover.

Heine, did you fit the LR plate yourself, or did your friend with "all the right the tools" do it for you? How long did it take to fit?
