Deal or no Deal

My Hse MY 12 D4 for Brand new Freelander Metropolis Firenze Red Ivory interior

Cost to change to me £500

Tax due end of Sept £485 Big 3 yr service Mot Dec Circa £600 Jan around 1k to extend warranty.

Freelander £500 quid now nothing for 12 months, cheaper ins, £300 less tax a yr, about 4mpg more.

My thoughts are that saving a few quid with the Freelander and having a brand new car, first time since 1990, will suffer greater depreciation than the D4.

Not factoring in any excess de valution on Freelander due to new D Sport model as it has moved up so much in price.

Any thoughts

Nor would I.
Freelander is now an obsolete model and so may loose a lot of money, plus the D4 to Freelander is a bog leap down, still a nice car but nnot a Discovery

Unless economy is your big goal, I'd stick with the D4 (or even a D3).

My D4 went a year ago because it was just costing me too much to run for my business (45p then 25p per mile goes no way in running a D4).
After a year out I'm now in a FL2, good to be back in a LR after a car, (and the FL2 is a good motor) but would much rather be sitting in a D4.

Plus they don't talk too much over on the FL2 site Rolling Eyes
...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

My thoughts;

This story runs from as a kid wanting to be in a Land Rover. They have always oozed "British" as a car, in its way to surge forward against all odds, even when declared a failure they seem to burst from the flames in a mission to rock crawl the world.

So, I started LR ownership about 6 years ago when we acquired an Freelander 1.8 XS. Terrible car, but its spirit struck me, and I got hooked on LR. So I went out and bought a brand new FL2 GS TD4 Manual, which was plagued with clutch problems and almost destroyed the feeling I had about LR. Went to my dealer after a year and said I wanted to give LR another chance. We agreed an amazing deal on an FL2 GS SD4 Manual - Never looked back, was a fantastic car. It went fast when I needed, and occasionally handled off roading when it needed to. We stayed together for 2 years.

However, the FL2 was quite small and I have 3 kids, one is now 17, and every time we went on holidays the FL2 was pack full to the brim. Almost to the point that I could not close the boot lid. Added to that, every time a Disco went past me, I felt inadequate, like there was more to this LR business than first met the eye... so, this year I made a bit of a leap of faith and put up some extra cash to really push to a Disco4.

The difference is amazing. Sitting higher up, able to go through anything, levels of comfort are far higher than the FL2 ever was, and what would once fill a FL2 to the brim, now rattles around in the back of my Disco Very Happy

Decide which car you really want, go for that, don't compromise. If you really need a smaller car and worry about fuel use, I really suggest to wait it out a year because all these nice shiny new Disco Sports are going to be on the market at a good price because a new engine variant has come in. The FL2 will then have some major impacts on their resale values, while Discos will still be fairly buoyant ahead of a new announcement for FFD in 2017.

Thumbs Up Very Happy

Financially I don't see this as a good deal taking potential future values into account.

No deal. It wouldn't be financially prudent in the long term for all the reasons they said. Thumbs Up

Re your servicing, take it to an Indy. I looked at prices on line and one is found was £230 for a genuine parts 3 years service.

Here is it is, www.infield4x4.co.uk
