Require 12v power when ignition is on

I have a 2006 TDV6 Auto and I am wanting to wire a solenoid that would activate only when the ignition is turned on.The simplest thing would be to connect the accessory to a cigarette lighter plug, but I would prefer not to do this.
Need to locate the solenoid in the engine bay to switch up to 20 amps whilst engine is running. Accessories (including fridge) will be located in the "boot" area
Can anyone assist as to where I might find a wire or a fuse terminal I can connect to, thereby activating the solenoid.

Thanks
KenB in Melbourne Australia.

also please add where you want it as there are switched live points in engine bay and in rear area.
and maybe load reqd.

the fuse box in footwell is easy to tap into
It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

Thanks amazing.

Any live switched live points in the engine bay (left or right side) would be fine. Can you identify where I can locate one or two please. The solenoid will take a small current in the primary circuit.
Thanks KenB

Ken, what vehicle do you have?
Presuming it's a D3 or LR3, try this thread: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic94731.html
That'll find you a permanent live inside the cabin. Presuming you have an auto, there's a grommet you can pass through to get yourself into the engine bay. Try this thread for cable routing: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic91021.html

You really need to remove the guesswork and update your details. Rolling Eyes

Narpy
Thanks for your question.
I have an Australianised 2006 TDV6 Auto with air suspension.
I plan to use a set of large capacity cables already located in the rear and run an onboard refrigerator & other things when the ignition is on, but I need to preserve the starting battery.

Locating a solenoid under the bonnet will enable me relocate the lead (currently attached to the starting battery) to the solenoid and obtain switched power to my accessories in the rear.
Using the rear cigarette socket causes too much of a voltage drop

Narpy...Thanks for the info and the link. found a wire & routed it as described in the link. A tight squeeze in the D3 but I now have switched power lead now in the engine bay. Solenoid working well so I can look forward to running equipment in the back and not worrying about flattening the crank battery.

Thanks everyone.
