loss of power now won't start |
|
Hi,
57 plate, TDV6 Auto HSE
on a journey home I had an amber warning light come on (looks like a little engine) and then loss of power on hills unless I got it above 2000rpm and then the turbo seemed to kick in. Got home and immediately logged on here to have a search and everything seems to point to EGR valve, booked into local garage the next day.
Went out to take it down to the garage and it won't start.... it'll crank over cough splutter a few times then just die... everything I've read about the EGR valve being faulty it never mentions failure to start just loss of power.... I'm now thinking it could be something else? Or is this still a symptom?
Battery with the ignition off is reading 12.04v, so have stuck it on charge anyway.
I did notice "Transmission" fault pop up on the dash the other day, but it seemed to clear itself so just thought it was a "discovery moment" and gear selection/kickdown was fine.
any thoughts?

Sounds like it could be a fueling issue, possibly a failure of the in-tank pump? Dennis

I thought that, so had the wife try and start it while I checked the Schrader valve on top near the back of the engine, fuel was flowing when she tried to turn it over.
I can also hear the fuel pump start when the key is turned by sticking my head next to the rear driver side wheel

Its not the belt that worries me its the problem of the cracking oil tensioner which is a common theme on here and also subject for a forum wide push and funding into a proper investigation.
Being as yours is a 57 its a possibility as that's when the failed items began to become into production.
I hope im dead wrong as its usually a new engine.
Search on here for failed tensioner and see if your symptoms are similar.
Im no way an expert or tech just been on here for a few years and it sometimes occurs after a belt change. The new belts finally finishing off a tensioner.

just heard back from the garage, both EGR values have issues.
One has failed completely in the open position and the other is on its way... I'm assuming there is a way to test this?
so bits have been ordered, how long should it normally take to change both?
