Next time it happens, see if you can access the rear view image through the diagnostic screen. If the image is disrupted by the upper door being open or closed, I suspect a broken wire. There’s 2 wires and a co-ax cable if I remember correctly. 012MY RRS 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography (Current)

I have the same...
1. It started as intermittent, but is now every time (which makes me think wiring)
2. I sometimes see the image for a second before it goes off (which makes me think that the actual camera bit is ok)
3. The rear parking sensors have also stopped working (which again makes me think wiring. (I think that somebody higher up the thread said that their sensors were out too)
4. There are no faults showing on the IID
So I guess my next move will be wiggling wiring... I'll report back on how that goes Disco4, Disco2, R1200R, CBX600FX, multiple Ham radios, and several bicycles...
All that lot and a tool fetish means that I seldom have more than two brass farthings to rub together.

I don’t think there’s any interaction between reverse cam and parking aid. The only interaction I can think of is between the surround camera module and parking aid Module which communicate on one of the bus’s to show a rear sensor overlay on the reverse camera image. I haven’t seen anything to suggest a failed parking aid module or sensor would prevent the reverse camera image being displayed. 012MY RRS 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography (Current)

From the LR D4 Workshop Manual -
Quote:Colored bars represent the amount of distance between the vehicle and the object being approached. Working in
conjunction with the standard ‘rear parking aid’ this adds a visual representation to the existing audible warning.
The distance data is received from the parking aid module via the medium speed CAN.
The reversing-aid graphics can be disabled for the current drive cycle in the settings menu.
That was what made me wonder if it was a wiring issue with mine so i fiddled with the wiring to the sensor as I didnt have time to get it off - literally just pushed slightly the sensor wiring away from the metalwork it was resting on and havent had an issue since - had the new sensors ready to go on for over a month but not had any errors on my car since and the car is free from faults on the IID Must stop buying shiny toys....

If a reverse sensor or loom fails, the Module reports a fault to the BCM and the reverse camera will still display but the parking aid symbol on the screen has a diagonal line through it to indicate the failure but the reverse image is still displayed. It shouldn’t go blank. 012MY RRS 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography (Current)

Had this a year ago on my car, over exuberant jet washing by youngest and his pal, put up this fault on mine. Ended up finding the connectors for the sensor wiring loom and gave them a good squirt with contact cleaner and left to dry. Fixed that problem and its never came back ( touches wood ) . If I remember the rear connection is under the offside rear wheel arch ?

Mine would display something like rear camera not available from the point the car was turned on as soon as the screen was available with a warning beep from the rear every time you tried to put the car into reverse and the same message sometimes on the screen no front or reverse sensors worked, my Iid showed
B1B48-01 (28) Rear left outer sensor - General failure information - general electrical failure
the only thing I have done was to raise up the sensor cable away from the metalwork it was resting on - I suspect of it take the bumper off when the weather gets a bit better it will have frayed and was shorting.
No other messages stored
Possible they aren’t related but both continue to work but before neither was working Must stop buying shiny toys....

Have you tested the camera in the diagnostic screen?
The rear view camera is always on and isn’t switched by the reverse selection. It’s the FCDIM (screen) which is switched to show the reverse image when reverse is selected. This means you can see the rear view image in diagnostic mode even when driving forward. It also means that you can see if it works without the parking sensors coming into play. 012MY RRS 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography (Current)

M3bobbly said: "Have you tested the camera in the diagnostic screen? " but I don't seem to be able to 'quote' that text...
So: Thanks for that - I didn't know that was possible. But having said that I do know that the camera is working ok since it has now started working all the time (since I said it was intermittent yesterday!) and even when it wasn't 'working' it still worked for a second before the 'cameras not available' message...
So in summary...
The camera is working but is (sometimes) not being displayed.
There is no reported error
and...
For the moment it has fixed it's self
Sorry I didn't get a chance to 'fix' it and post the fix, but - perhaps it will go wrong again...

I've been getting the "camera not available - contact dealer" message on screen intermittently over last couple of days. Real pain as none of the parking sensors working either which makes parking this beast a bit tricky in narrow spaces!
Spoke to a technician at local dealer and was advised to simply give the camera a clean as due to condensation and cameras getting dirty this time of year, it throws up this fault! Didn't think it would work (camera was a bit dirty but nothing major), but lo and behold, quick wipe of the camera and it seems to be working again!

I have the option to put the rear camera on view when driving. Used to use this option as a rear view mirror when I had a large dog that blocked out the rear view.
I think it's one of the options available from the right arrow on the screen. You could see how often it stops working using this method.
Keep us posted. Gary
