HVAC Issues
Hi
I have what appears to be a common issue with cold air out of one side of the HVAC in the Disco, whereby the on board test does not show any faults. I also have no stored fault codes so I am assuming that the issue is a stepper / blend motor that is not functioning correctly, but also not registering a fault.
Now I have searched the threads for a procedure to replace the stepper motor's, but I have not been able to see one, so I assume this is a pita job, whereby a lot of the dash has to come out.
Does anyone have any advice here on this job, plus also advise if these are the correct part numbers I found on the internet for the motors, as I cant get any of the on line suppliers to show them as listed - so assume LR only supply?
Next question, how many of each will be required, as if I am doing this job - I am replacing the whole lot to save pulling it back down again. Also, will I need to program anything after replacing the motors?

The name escapes me but a forum member has written an extensive how-to guide. Before you start though spend £30 on a cheap USB bore scope so you can see what is happening before taking the car apart.

Thanks for coming back to me on this, it is appreciated.
On the write up I will continue to search the padt threads to see if I can locate the one you are referring to.
With regards to the boring scope - (after I purchase one), what am I looking for. Am I looking for flaps staying shut / open etc - or something completely different?

Was the name you were thinking of NickJ, as there is a thread mentioning Nick's how to? I have tried searching for the guide but noyhing as yet, but just checking I was in the right area.

It's not as scarey a job as it looks, just set aside a whole day the there's no rush.
I Managed to remove the loom plug from the gear selector so enabling full removal of center console which meant I didn't have to remove upper glove box. The plug is similar to the plugs on the Engine control module, i.e. It has a saddle type clip that you have to pull up and over the plug as you ease it out.
Also if you've got electric seats, move seats forward to remove the rear fixings on the center console then move them fully back before you remove the battery!
There are 2x blend motors
1x Face/foot motor
1x defrost motor
The recirculation motor is over near the fan behind the lower glove box,

Many thanks for this information, it is truly appreciated. Do you happen to know if the part numbers I posted is correct - as google does not seem to like them very well, and I do not wish to order the wrong parts - unless that is they are LR supply only, then I will call my local dealer.

Robbie, Glad it's not just me who does things like that!
Jay, I found these part no's. with microcat although I think my copy is 2010 so numbers may have changed since.
JWO 500030 Air mix right stepper
JWO 500030 Air mix left stepper
JWO 500020 Face/footwell stepper
JWO 500010 Defrost stepper
I changed all four while a was in there although only the face/foot stepper was at fault according to fault codes, All has been fine since I did it back in 2011. Even when you have stripped it all out you'll still need to stuff your head into the footwells whilst trying to figure out how to get your fingers to the steppers. The blend motors are mounted lower and therefore easier to reach. you could take a calculated risk and only replace the faulty blend stepper as they don't seem to break with great regularity(not too many posts on the forum about it). IIRC less than £20 each from LR but have probably gone up 200% sine a bought them!

Our D3 is my wife daily driver, when I drive it I tend to cycle things as I suspect they never get moved. I wonder if many faults with the blend motors is through lack of use.
I move the HVAC to all positions, go into Low Range and operate the suspension.
I often wonder if the blend motors get stuck and haven't always failed.
I had P38 where you could free them up by keep trying them, sometimes by doing when the car was hotIID PRO
