"Blown" xenon questions.

Aaaaaaarrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhh!!

Couple of questions re xenon. If a H2S bulb has blown do you loose all xenon function in that lamp, even on full beam?

And thinking it was a good idea to check the fuses (82 & 87 main fuse box after much scratching of head), how do I retrieve the fuse puller that got dropped into the depths of hell? Looks like I need to remove the bonnet release, is this straight forward? Or where can I get another fuse puller?

Lasts question, what total muppet designed that fuse board in that location? How the Censored are you supposed to be able to remove & put fuses back in without surgical tools or triple jointed fingers. Do designers live in the real world or only assume things will never fail and hence customers will never need to access fuses. Rolling Eyes

…and the first tool specifically bought for my D3 was:

Bonnet handle comes off with just one screw - easy. The high/low beam of the xenon is achieved by a mechanical shutter so if the bulb or ballast has gone then it has gone.

Yes to the first question, as far as I know the full beam is made by removing a shutter in front of the bulb, the intensity of the bulb has never changed.

No idea on fuse issue..., that is Censored up design as you say.

Looks like it's the bulb then. Will put one of the old ones in to get me street legal & get one ordered. Will also look at getting some surgical forceps/grips in case I actually need to get a fuse out.

Robbie, Thumbs Up re bonnet pull, will give it a try. Hopefully I won't break anything. Big Cry Big Cry

S'pose I have to buy a pair to have a match? Just don't tell SWMBO I need 2. dj linky so I can add to my shopping around? Whistle

OK not £25 (unless off ebay)

you need a D2S Xenon bulb - best change both sides

Tempted to get another pair of the Korean ones so I have one to put in and one spare. At £56 for a pair the price is not too bad and I get a spare in case another pops.

Waiting on the "HOW MUCH" from SWMBO, will ply her with more vino. Whistle

Go to your local scrappy and hunt for one, similar in most cars nowadays, two sizes and there's even one that does both sizes.

Get a handful of spare fuses while you are there Whistle

Phew, minor emergency is over. Just took the headlamp unit out and connector with the big bunch of cables popped off the back without me touching it. "Hmmmm" I thought and pushed it in properly til it clicked and then checked the xenon headlamp function. Sure enough it lives. Mr. Green Mr. Green strange that only the feed to the xenons was affected.

Lights back and playing and I'm back to being fully street legal. Thanks for all the help and PMs, it's givin me options if one of them does pop. My faith in Korean bulbs has been restored. Thumbs Up

Now just got to find that fuse puller. Embarassed Embarassed Laughing
