Shock Absorber replacement |
|
Has anyone replaced their shocks yet? At how many km's?
I am not referring to the imported Koni shocks that some of you are considering. Just a standard replacement.
And finally, does the Dealer do it?
Thanks. Frontrunner roofrack and ladder. Optima yellow top. National Luna dual battery system. Bridgestone Dueler D694 A/T.

Yes - had mine replaced at 61250km's. Vehicle's handling was very erratic - specially when moving over speed bumps. Felt it more in the handling than the actual suspension being too soft.
Three dealers drove the vehicle and reported everything ok - was only Midrand that confirmed shocks were gone. Front lower arm bushes were also replaced at the same time and vehicle felt brand new afterwards.
Tried to go the Koni route but LRSA would not allow it - ie warranty would have been revoked. IIRC the Konis were about R150 (each) cheaper than the genuine LR part.
First set of shocks that arrived were not correct spec for my model (2007) so had to wait another 3 weeks before the correct ones arrived. Explanation was that no (or very few) D3's have their shocks replaced while still under warranty
Only LR dealers are allowed to do this job, otherwise warranty goes out the window Erstwhile - D3 S '07. Dual battery system. Upgraded tow hitch. Mantec skid plate. Frontrunner rr. Tmax double headed built in compressor

Had my shocks replaced under warranty. vehicle was probably 2 years old at that stage.
Not happy, so paid LR to fit the "Spiros" shocks and lower bushes - now am very
Had my upper bushes replaced just the other day under warranty with no quibbles, so Deon, I think they have seen you driving offroad hence the threats

So what happened to the theory that the D3 is the best all rounder
As soon as you take it off-road you have to replace bits and pieces of suspension Erstwhile - D3 S '07. Dual battery system. Upgraded tow hitch. Mantec skid plate. Frontrunner rr. Tmax double headed built in compressor

One man's offroading is another man's rallying?
Deon, in my case the D3's al fell apart and broke mostly whilst "on roading": due to driving within "design parameters"
Heine, when does offroading become "rallying"? Or is it only Deon?
As we can't do more than 40kmh, we are essentailly governed and not really able to compete with the offroading speedsters. "None of Nature's landscapes are ugly so long as they are wild"

At about 110'000km's I had a knocking noise from the front when traversing uneven ground and was told the R/F shock had had it. The dealer fitted a new one and replaced the control arm bushes at the same time...
The old knocking noise has gone, but was replaced with a new knocking noise which they now can't find...! It seems, that the older I get, the faster I was...!

Could the ball joints/ cv joints not be the problem?

My rear shocks only lasted 40 000 km and were replaced under warranty. The front shocks are still fine after nearly 60 000 km.
The handling was aweful with soft rear shocks D3 2005 HSE V8 model, snorkel, nudge bar, uprated tow hitch (12T), Goodyear Wrangler MTR (MT) tyres, National Luna battery box, Outback roof-rack, Takla seat covers.

How do you get LRSA to agree to replace the shocks under warranty -- is it all up to the opinion of a technician from the dealer after driving your vehicle, or is there another way to prove that the shocks are gone?

You can have the shocks tested (on a machine) at a Tyre Dealers and take the printout to your LR stealer or just arrived at the LR stealers with a baseball bat in your hand D3 2005 HSE V8 model, snorkel, nudge bar, uprated tow hitch (12T), Goodyear Wrangler MTR (MT) tyres, National Luna battery box, Outback roof-rack, Takla seat covers.

They (LR) replaced my front ones under MP, they "thought" it was the reason for my leaking suspension. Done at 65,000km.
They told me that it's not normal to replace under warrantee, they don't even stock it. Under normal conditions, it probably needs some attention between 150-200k km. 2007 TDV6 SE auto (ex Write off)
