Halogen Headlight + Side Repeater Bulb upgrade Advice?

Apologies in advance if this has already been answered, I have had a brief search fo the forums, but wanted some crystal clear advice form somone that has done a Halogen Headlight upgrade.
So basically I am looking to upgrade the front headlights with some LED bulbs without the need of resistors if possible?

Can someone please tell me which bulbs I can use in the headlight and side repeaters please?

I have just removed the amber from my headlights and would prefer them to be all LED if possible.

Thanks in advance.

For side repeaters, I used an amber pair of these:

For replacement LED indicator bulbs in the headlamp unit, you will need a pair of these:

http://www.hids4u.co.uk/3156-LED-Can-Bus-I...Amber.html

BUT, you will still need to fit resistors in parallel across the bulb terminals like this:

One of the black and blue wires are connected to the terminals of a resistor:

There are no LED replacements - that I'm aware of - that do not require the fitting of resistors, unless you want the indicator speaker clicking twice as fast (bulb out warning).

Cheaper options are available but these have been excellent with no failed SMD units in any of the replacement bulbs I've had from HIDS4U. As with everything, you get what you pay for. Thumbs Up

Thanks Steve looks simple enough. So the side repeaters do not need resistors or did i read that wrong?

No resistors required for the side repeaters. You will need to fit a resistor on each corner that has an LED indicator fitted, however. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the clarification. I was reading up about CanBus LED and they are marketed as being error free, obviously that's not true in the case of the Landrover.
Next question is where to get the resistors?

Re the main H7 halogen bulbs something like Osram Nightbreakers or Philips X-treme +100% bulbs are a good upgrade if not going for xenons, don't forget to change the high beam bulbs as well, makes big difference. Thumbs Up

Re sidelights, went for the LED ones from Advanced Factors, very happy with them.

HIDS4U and Advanced Factors sell the resistors:

http://www.hids4u.co.uk/resistor-kit-for-led-bulbs.html

http://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/50w-6-res...3637-p.asp

Bear in mind that all of the LED bulbs I recommended above are not "E" marked. There was some debate elsewhere on here about the legality of them in a type approved fitting. I don't know what the consensus was but I suspect they are illegal, in theory, although they will pass the MoT test without a problem. Thumbs Up

Here's the link for the AF sidelight LEDs. See above for pics.

http://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/t10-cree-...5199-p.asp

My car failed it's MOT on the LED sidelights coz I used cheap 50p ones that have a blue tint. Fine for inside the car but not sidelights.

The MoT tester just checks to make sure they are red, amber, or white. They don't care how the light is emitted. You will not have any issue with your MoT tester.

The Police probably have the power to stop you and issue you with a ticket for your bulbs not being "E" marked. In reality, I suspect hope the Police have better things to do than drive about all day looking for cars with LED replacement bulbs.

Being slightly paranoid I carry a few of the original yellow tinted bulbs in my bag of fuses so if I need to I can swap them back in a few minutes.

Just coz your paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you. Laughing

Given the legality issues I think I am going to just go with chromed Indicater bulbs on both side repeaters and front indicators, and upgrade my main headlight bulbs.

Im not sure how I stand at the moment given that i removed ALL the amber from my front lights already and didn't refit the reflective strip, so I don't want to push my luck.
