Mongoose diagnostic tool and RSW solutions |
|
I bought a Mongoose from Drew (a genuine one not a knock off) with a view to using the Dealer Land Rover software that someone had given me. However, it really does seem a bit too complicated to use for occasional owner use, and I'm wondering is there any software out there that could be used with it to read fault codes etc.
I recently saw a friend of mine with a Range Rover had bought software and a usb interface from RSW
They also do a Disco 3 version http://www.rswsolutions.com/index.php/discovery-iii-lr3
He said it was very good, and was pleased with it, the price seems very reasonable too, and it looks pretty straightforward to use.
Anyone any experience with it?
Just wondering whether to flog the Mongoose and go for something like this
Suggestions appreciated!

Hi Andy
It depends on how complex you want to go on your wrenching - if all you want is to read the actual fault codes then you may get by with some of the toolbox routines that I think shipped with the Mongoose. This would be the equivalent of a generic OBD code reader. It's not going to let you do things like set the EPB module to various service modes for working on the shoes etc.
There are other "simpler" solutions out there than the JLR software, IID Tool, BBS Faultmate, Nanocom etc, and only you can really decide if they fit your use case better. Most of those solutions don't require an "active" subscription to keep working and the support level from their respective companies is probably better suited to you as a non-dealer workshop.
I've stumbled across that RSW site before but I've never met someone using their software - the danger with possibly a "one man band' operation is they run out of interest or funds in developing the software any further. Or both. Sometimes better to stick with the more established names, although at under $200, it's hardly a gamble of a lifetime I suppose. Depending on what you want to do, contact them and find out if the Mongoose is a supported interface ?
