Webasto 1533 timer

Not sure where to put this. I thought about tech or mod section but its a Webasto question rather than a D3 question.

When I had my D3 I purchased a 1533 timer to control the FBH. I have since sold my D3 and now the proud owner of a Puma 110. I want to fit a Webasto Airtop 2000ST. But the question I can't find an answer to is this.
Can I use the 1533 and the sim based control unit to control the Airtop via a text messge or phonecall.

Any Webasto gurus out there who can help? If not I'll have the control unit and 1533 for sale soon

Depends if the 2000ST is controlled by WBUS signal.

Thermo Top V as fitted to D3 is controlled by WBUS which is generated by the 1533. Wink
There is a 12v out on the timer but this is usually used by D3 owners to illuminate an LED so you can see the timer is working. This could be used to fire a 2000ST IF it's controlled by 12v only. Thumbs Up

Many thanks for the prompt response. A bit more research is needed me thinks. Oh, and sourcing an Airtop at a decent price

Looks like you'll need a 1531 but this might only do what a 1533 does anyway. Thumbs Up

Thats not good if its the case. Don't want a big fascia panel in the 110. Nowhere easy to mount it.

I've just sent Webasto technical an email to find out if my plan will work

I don't know about the sim based unit, but the 1533 outputs both wbus and the single logic level control used by pre-wbus units, so it can almost certainly be used.

The sim units intended use is as an electric gate opener. You text/call it and it gives a signal to open the gate. The D3 gang were using it to fire the FBH, so when they started the car it was already warm.
I was just hoping the same could be done to an airtop. ie that you could just give it a 12v pulse from a source to get it to fire up.
Looks like it will work then. Just need to source a cheap Airtop now. Which is proving to be a hard task Big Cry

I'd forgotten about that bodge, but yes, you can still pull the same stunt - the gate unit simple 'pushes' the button on the timer, so if the timer works, then the gate opener will work.

I might have a service manual for an airtop, I'll try to have a look this weekend.

edit : Sorry - by the wonders of VPN, I've only got service manauls for Thermotops and (Eberspacher) Airtronics.

Worth looking at the Eberspacher D1L series. There is (or was) lots of those around in 12V form ex BT service vans, and most have never been used. I've never bothered to remote control one though, even at overnight temps reaching toward -20C, it only took 5 mins to make it uncomfortably warm inside the car. Thumbs Up

I have remote control on both vehicles with coolant heaters though, and I wouldn't be without it.

I had looked at the Eber set of heaters but was recommended to stay with the Webasto as they are more reliable . Not sure how true that is?

Sorry, can't help with that question... I have a Thermotop C that I've had from new about 10 years ago, that's never given any trouble despite being regularly dunked in mud and water. I have an Eber D1LCc I bought second hand about 6 years ago. That's been in two trucks, and likewise has never given a moments trouble.

In fact, the only one to have given any grief is the TT-V in the D3, and that may be partly due to my using it to develop my telestart interface - I may have coked up the burner excessively. One of these days I'll have a look at it, but the replacement price from Duckworths was too good to miss!

Thinking about it I had an Eber on my Merc Sprinter at work a few yrs ago and that performed faultlessly. I've found a company on eBay who buy and recondition Ebers. And they are a good bit cheaper than new or a Webasto.
To be fair I don't really mind what make it is as long as I can lie in my roof tent and turn it on from there.
Don't want to get cold turning the heater on. Sort of defeats the object of having one and I don't want to use a timer. As I get up at varying times so can't predict when to turn it on.
