I have the black steel wraparound protection bar. Recently I was out with my club and the bar tipped forward with my driving lights. We discovered the top fixing is only slots and any upward jolt will free it to fall forward. Fortunately, I was coming down a mud hill and my mate saw the bar had come down and stopped me before it dug in. This could feasibly happen on speed humps in the street with a much more serious result. Any ideas?

that's scary.
i recently had the steel bar and lights installed to my disco3 (and was in tassie for a week about 2 weeks ago)
lucky mine hasn't come off, but would like to know how to not make it come off !!!
(plus i got pinged by a speed camera in perth !!! argh )
if you've got pics, please post to the gallery ....2009 Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 HSE
I've got the same bar, but it's very well fixed The bolts in the slots should be tightened to 15Nm, looks like it's worth checking they're still tight occasionally
The End
I still believe that if you touch the bottom brackets on anything the 2.5 tonnes will lift the bar off. Given that the top bolts go through the plastic bumper I am loathe to change the slot to a hole lest any upward jolt on the bottom brackets damages the bumper.

aren't these bars also able to support a winch ???
can you imagine that - winch and driving lights, then the bar coming off 2009 Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 HSE

Looking at Slimers, the brackets are a bit flimsy and I would no way fit a winch, let alone use it.

The winch attaches to the chassis, not the brush bar

Where do the brackets go for the bar then TFC when the winch is installed?

The winch mounting points are above the brush bar ones as in:-It looks like the winch carrier is integrated with the brush bar, but it's not

I see now, wish I had looked at RLD's and Slimers together, would have made sense.
