Lost spare key

My other half has potentially lost the spare key to our Disco (it may turn up somewhere but it's not looking good). Before I call my dealer, does anyone know what is involved in getting a new key?

Cheers

Apply 'Sods Law'. Order a new one and the old will will appear, or loose something else and then look for that. your D3 key will then appear in the first place you looked for it Thumbs Up

Make sure the "limbs" are not those of your wife or she wont be able to drive and you wont need a new key. Rolling with laughter

Tomo go for sods law it worked for me!

Whilst on holiday in Cornwall last summer I found the spare rattling around in the beach tent. After a few words she agreed to keep it safe otherwise it would be an arm and a leg.

Once back home I asked if the spare was back in the key safe. The silence said it all, she couldn’t find it Evil or Very Mad

Well after nearly 9 months I thought I’d better get a spare after a panic when the car locked itself and I feared the remote was in the car. The fight or flight adrenalin rush subsided when I remembered that the auto lock is disabled after a door is opened and as I had not been in the car I couldn’t have left the remote in it. A quick search located the remote on a garden chair where I’d placed it after being distracted by the kids Embarassed

I bought one on ebay and was prepared to pay the dealer to replace the key bit and reprogram the remote………this is where sods law came into it. The seller let me down. A few days later she was ferreting in her handbag looking for her mobile and pulled out the spare remote Thumbs Up

All she said was “I knew I’d put it safe and I told you it would turn up”. A quick discussion identified she last used that handbag in Cornwall. Priceless. Rolling with laughter

Go for sods as body parts hurt.

So, is it much to replace a key if you purchase one off of ebay? I'm missing my spare, and saw the ones listed on ebay.... The stealership wants $325 bucks for a new one...

Thanks HarrisonB...I just know in my case that 'sods law' will mean: I find the spare *after* I buy a replacement Rolling Eyes

I spoke to my 'stealership' (nice one dochummer Thumbs Up) and the process for replacing the key (in the UK at least) is as follows:

1) Take your D3, original log book, plus a recent utility bill and driving license (all with the same address on them) to your dealer.
2) Give them £91.09 inc vat and they will order a new key.
3) Book your D3 in at your dealer 10 days later for them to 're-program' the car/keys.
4) Give the dealer a further £70 (approximately) for the labour.

So around £160 and 10 days in the UK - which is actually less than I was expecting believe it or not Shocked

I have also found a key on ebay...there is no 'buy it now' price though so not sure how much it will eventually go for, or if I will be the successful bidder even! I presume you would then need to get the actual 'key' part cut somewhere else? Anyone know anyone who can do this? Then of course you'll still need to get your dealer to re-program the key....so this option could still cost a similar amount to the dealer replacement.

I'll post any further updates here.... Very Happy

I would turn this into an insurance claim and try it on your house insurance. If you are lucky eonough to be with Sentinel or one of the equivalents (part of my credit card perks from Lloyds bank) then you will find your keys are covered on that as well.

The Life insurance would more than cover it ... might even get a FFRR out of the deal.

If your other half looses the key just kill her .. Thumbs Up

Forget the 10 days. Our spare stopped working 4 months ago and the new one is still on order. Is anyone else having this problem?
