Tow Hook Lock
Hi folks
I have to use my tow hook beginning of next week.
Today I have seen that the key has snapped in the lock but it is still possible to mount and engage the hook and also disengage and remove it by turning the plastic part. I tried to fiddle the part of the key out of the lock in engaged and also in disengaged position but without any luck because I am was not able to grap it even with small tools.
My question is now: Is there a trick to remove the part of the key so I can use my spare one?
Or if not can I use the hook safely without locking since the key part is still in the lock?
Thanks for your help
Cheers

The locks are not expensive so probably easier to buy a new one and fit it.

Hi Robbie
thanks for the fast reply.
That is also an option.
The question is if I can get it in time since tomorrow it is a holiday here

Anybody else how can say if I can use it in a safe way with the key in lock or if not how I can remove the rest of the key?
Any help appreciated.

You will only get the broken key out with lock in the engaged position. If you can still turn the knob and take off the hitch it wont come out. Try putting the hitch on the vehicle and somehow turning the lock and then try and remove the key with a pointed screwdriver or blade

If you end up with the hitch locked on the vehicle and still cannot remove the key, then at least you can use the vehicle safely and sort it out later.

Tried it by engaging and removing the rotating knob which includes the lock. So you can easy see the locking pin and if the lock is totally closed. Then with a little fiddling I could remove the old key part.
Thanks

I broke my one in the lock last year, managed to get it out with tweezers, then read the number on the front of the key housing and ordered a key on ebay for about 3 quid. Arrived in a couple of days.

new lock 18 quids..normally in stock cus they always break...easy to change just follow instructions...
when you go to store it again..bang the small pin to lock it off the car then the key will come out...beware if it aint locked on the car some nasty will nick it costing you 495 quids for a brand new one

I have just read what may be the answer to a question I was just about to pose but to clarify.
Can anybody tell me where I can get the Key No.
I have some letters and No's on the back of the red plastic piece attached to the key, is that it ?
