Agree with Zebadee, back off the throttle and let the vehicle pull off at low revs for 1/2 mile and roar disappears. Very Happy

Never mind how to stop the noise, I want to know how to make it continuos Very Happy
I think it sounds good - a bit like going through that 'bean can' exhaust phase when you just passed your test Whistle

mine started off with a roar from cold but now roars intermittently but constantly thru the gears, can cause this to happen by changing down hard.Believe me this is not something you would want to hear all the time.
Landrover have said that this is caused by the injector pump which has been replaced but no improvement found.

More likely to be the viscose coupling on the fan IMHO

I love my morning roar.
Viscous coupling or otherwise.
Please leave my roar alone.

It's the first big smile of my day Very Happy

How to make it roar all day long?

it may sound good but it plays havoc with the fuel economy,my old rangerover viscous coupling failed and stuck in and it cost me an extra 5mpg Shocked not good when i was only getting 12 to start with Mr. Green

Difficult to talk about fuel economy with a D3... Big Cry
I love that roaring noise too when cold (all relative here... 8) . Had it with the Defender when hot. Rolling Eyes

I love the roar too, nice throaty low sound. Proper for a vehicle like the LR (Discovery) 3.

It is not a viscous fan...it's an electronically controlled fan with a clutch controlled by a PWM signal dependent upon various engine temperature readings Thumbs Up

To quote from the bible:

Quote:
The viscous fan unit is electronically controlled by the
ECM to optimise fan speed for all operating conditions.
NOTE: If the electrical connections to the viscous fan
are disconnected the fan will 'idle' and overheating may
result. The ECM stores the appropriate fault codes in
this case
.

Clever, eh? Except when it stops working properly...

Maybe a powertrain software update could reduce roar?

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

ISTR that it is also controlled by various other loading requirements such as the air con compressor state and other bits and bobs Thumbs Up

Thumbs Up I meant that it's not a conventional viscous unit Smile
