That's how to decode the VIN, not the engine number.

Some re-manufacturers use their own numbering, but engines built or re-manufactured by JLR "should" be logically numbered, and hopefully someone can post an explanation.

Sorry, misread Embarassed
Normally engine numbers are sequential, so might be a bit tougher

Thanks,
the original engine was replace at 74000 km LR in 2011 that was the year they started using the tougher crank in the tdv6. The 2.7 TDV6 has a bad reputation in SA but I have a feeling it has to do with fuel quality and service interval. I like to believe that a well maintained engine will look after you. original engine no 00266034276DT new no ELD11220602413687G maybe this helps. I think the original engine was assembled in the Dugenham plant Very Happy

Hi guys, massive thread bump.. I am trying to find out what the following means, it's the engine sticker on the left side valve cover, from top to bottom -

5G 976 AB
15 MAR 05 576
4.0L V6 LBYNCA
E1W21 1503055808661576406PN

Apart from the 4.0L V6, the date and the engine number 5808******

What does the rest tell me?

Just guessing but the part of the engine number after the '5808' (i.e. ... 661576406PN, might be the sequential engine number to the '0' followed by a code meaning 6 cylinder, Petrol fuel, and Normal aspiration.

The old girl is on her third engine...
* first ran a bearing (design failure in original engine)
* second had a failure of the water outlet on top of the engine (pls check yours)

Thanks for the input LeighW. Reason I’m asking is because I’m having a helluva time finding a timing chain kit for it so I’m looking for more evidence that I can pick up one for say, an Explorer, and have it fit.
