Survey about reliability?
Hello again! I want to make a new post on this topic, a more concise one that i can make cake diagrams out of.
I have sent this letter as a PM to a lot of people, n now im posting it here for everyone to reply.
I might do the same ind a toyota forum:)
If you own a Discovery 3 could you please answere these questions?
1: What car do you own? (TD6, auto, HSE, for exampel)
2: How many years has the car been in your ownership?
3: How many miles have you done over these years?
4: Have you serviced your car as recomended by Land Rover?
5: Throughout your ownership, have you experienced minor faults(see definition under)?
- If yes. How many and what happend?
5: Throughout your ownership, have you experienced a major breakedown(see definition under)?
- If yes. How many and what happend?
6: Has the car been used off road?
Definition of minor faults: Fault that occur unexpected without any obvious external influence. The fault does NOT impair the driving ability of the vehicle and you can drive it(eg broken radio, latch problems++).
Definition of major breakdown: Fault that occur unexpected without any obvious external influence. This fault DOES impair the driving ability of the vehicle and you cant drive it(eg broken engine, transmission).
Please dont list problems thats a result of wear and tear. Im also not interested in faults due to any accident
As for introduction. Im a Land Rover interested man. I Owned a D2 from 09-11. Sold it cos i did not have the nerves to continue owning it, mostly due to all the bad stories. Did not have any major problems with it thou. Now im cosidering buying a D3.
(The first replies refer to my first thread, this is a upgraded one:))

Hello there! Im looking for a D3 here in Norway. Im reading up on reliability issues on the car and there is a lot of different stories.
People that post in this forum usually have some kind of problem so its easy to get the impression of an unreliable car.
I see that you have surveys about airsuspensions and other things. What about making asurvey about general reliability that`s easy for everyone that visited this site to answere?
FEX:
I have had my car for more than 1 year and i have had:
1) No problems
2) Minor problems but nothing too expensive
3) Major expensive problems but no breakdowns
4) Breakdown, the car could not be used.

Budget for 4. Hope for 1. If you want something reliable then I suggest something with no moving parts such as this:

4. For one week due to starter motor solenoid failure, which can happen to any car.
2. Parking sensor's not working for about a year, cost of buying sensors has put me off sorting it, but i'm now getting it sorted a sensor at a time.
I've owned this car for 1 year and 20 months, i've covered 23k in all manners of terrain, weather conditions.
It's carried 7 people through a blizzard, towed 3 ton trailers out of muddy fields, moved furniture, logs, dogs, off roaded in all sorts of conditions and terrains, i've parked it in ditches twice, it's chased Audi's down the M8 at night, ( need a remap and limiter removal... )
Last year i carried out a very intensive refresh of all wishbones, arb bushes, the steering system and renwed and upgraded the full braking system. That cost but the car will do many years before needing another overhaul.
It get's serviced on time, oil changed every 7.5k and always run on good fuel, not supermarket stuff.
It's rewarded me with loyal service. It does drink diesel though...
As said, Plan for 4 just in case, don't let small issues become big ones as that's when the big bills arrive.
