Hope I don't offend by saying this but if you're looking to save money by not doing brake pad changes properly and then buying 2nd hand tyres... is the D3 for you? They're quite an expensive beast to run and they REALLY suffer if run on a budget.

Starting to some some real dogs out there now where the purchase price is low but people are buying them when they don't have a hope of maintaining them correctly.

Aside from that I would say that the D3 braking is awful and a V8 upgrade is DEFINITELY the thing to do when you next need discs and pads. It's such a minimal additional outlay for a huge benefit.
