MOT Fail - Lower Suspension Arms |
|
2009 HSE TDV6, 59,000 miles, located between Harrogate and Skipton.
Failed MOT this morning on all lower suspension arms-
".... lower suspension arm rubber bush bonding deteriorated resulting in excessive movement (2.4.G.2)"
It was demonstrated to me by the tester putting a crowbar in and levering the arm showing movement and a gap between the bush and where landed where it was leaving shiny patches through rubbing.
They phone round for parts prices and advised they were only available from LR so no price competition.
Price quoted for replacement of all 4 lower arms as follows; fully inclusive of labour and VAT.
£305.95 Nearside Front
£305.95 Offside Front
£303.30 Offside Rear
£263.30 Nearside Rear
£ 39.99 4 Wheel Alignment
£1218.49 TOTAL fully inc.
Question - Does that sound about right price wise? (They can do it this week with 24 hrs notice).
Many thanks for your help.

I can recommend R & R Landrover specialists at Tockwith, not a million miles from you. Labour rates are very competitive. They will be replacing mine next month.
PM me if you want the contact details ?

This is good timing as my lower arms are on their way out. I was told the front lowers were replaced about 32k miles ago but they are now showing some movement. The rear lower arms also have lots of movement.
A couple of Qs:
1 - How often do these need replacing as allegedly they had all previously be replaced in the past.
2 - The Advanced factors arms, are they OEM or pattern parts and are they good quality as I don't want to be going through the same process in 12 months time.

Front arms are good quality aftermarket arms - now hundreds sold, mostly through this forum - Zero returns.
Rear arms - We supply OEM LR as we can't find a decent quality aftermarket one.
We give 2 years warranty on them both. Paul Redding

ive fitted many many sets of these now and not had any problems at all and i say this tongue in cheek because I've never had to return anything but rest assured the after sales you would receive from steve and AF would be second to none thats of course if you ever had to use it

Thanks for the quick feedback. Very tempting and as you all say its a cost effective alternative to LR kit.
Saying that managed to get a keen price from Duckworths as they have a special on at the moment with the front lowers, inc fittings, for £300 the pair and £168 for a pair of lower rear. The total for the both ends inc fitting kits was £526 delivered.
Aftermarket or LR...........

Honest.... I saw these things and they looked of good quality to me. I also went for the steering overhaul kit for £80 so the whole front end was new.
I wonder what's the actual difference in the LR ones? Plus Steve Guarentees them for 2 years. Discovery 3 HSE MY2006 - On the very edge of Kent known as Sunny Margate

So rang again and it was confirmed the price of fully loaded price of £168 included both rear lower arms. I may regret it but lets see what turns up in the post Friday but have the option to return them if I'm not happy.
Steve, maybe in touch about the steering overhaul kit as my indi said the steering has a bit of play, as do all the D3s he has seen. Anyone seen that replacing the rack and rod ends fixing this play.
Going to be an expensive month I feel as I need 4 new tyres as well. Also going to replace the valves in the suspension compressor as I get a warning light after the engine has been running for 10mins .
