Recovering: what car settings?

When you want to recover a stranded vehicle what setting do you put the D3 in?

Settings I think are clear
- low range
- standard hight, to have less stress on suspension and axles

Other things I'm not so sure of
- TR in rock crawl mode? Locks the center diff.
- DSC off/on?
- Gear box in command shift, 1st gear?

It will also depend on the surface the D3 is on I guess. If it's on tarmac, maybe put it in road mode just low gearing. If it is on a slippery surface set the TR to the correct surface?

Rock crawl also apply's the brakes slightly so you would lose some power!?

The more I think about it the more I get confused, any ideas/tips welcome.
