run car for warm up - two keys

Ok so its coming across the airwaves that as people get up in the cold morning and start their cars to warm them up whilst they sit in the kitchens and have their brekkie, scrotes are coming along and robbing their cars Shocked

so what about starting your car up and then locking it with your spare fob - would that work or would the ecu be confused and possibly lock yourself out of your running car?

Great question! I'd definately like to know the answer to that - not too keen to just give it ago! Although I guess with the window down it should be ok?

IIRC the car won't lock from the second (or primary) keyfob whilst keys are in the ignition and the engine is running.

Get your Webasto timer wired in and you don't have to worry Thumbs Up

35 minutes on the timer (40 if it's really cold), pop out with a soft (indoor) broom to push/brush the snow off everything if needed, open door, start the car with a nice warm engine and any residual ice is gone in under 60 seconds, ready to drive to wherever.
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

As JMC says, the fobs won't work whilst one is in the ignition.

Not sure if you could use the manual overide in the left hand front door though to lock it all?

I know that one of the conversions to blue-light services does something that allows the engine to continue running whilst in neutral and the keys out; it kills the engine if you move to drive or reverse, so is scrote-safe. Does anyone here know how hard that is to do? I still think installing a 1533 is the best bet though Smile

Runlock is your answer its fitted to all our HATO vehicles

Its most defiantly Disco friendly.

press the button take the key out and engine runs.

and quite cheap to buy

http://www.emergencyequipmentshop.co.uk/lo...p-278.html

The "Run Lock" unit enables a driver to remove the keys from the ignition of a vehicle while the engine continues to run. This enables adequate power, without battery drain, to be supplied to Blues and other scene lights at a major incident. The vehicle can then be driven off after re-inserting the keys, if the keys are not re-inserted the engine will cut out on removal of the parking brake or activation of the footbrake.

This allows vehicles to be left running and the battery charging, without the worry of an unauthorised person driving off in the vehicle.

The unit has three separate outputs as required on most modern vehicles.

Three separate outputs (1x 15A & 2x 6A).
Works on most modern vehicles
Fully encapsulated
e-marked
Ideal for Emergency & Commercial Vehicles
Panel Mount LED indicator supplied.
