spongey brakes

Can anyone shed some light onto why I am experiencing a lack of response when braking.

The pedal feels spongey and i am having to work the pedal hard to get the car to slow down.

I thought the pads were getting low but when going to replace them last week they have plenty left on them. The discs are also OK and the brake fluid reservoir was full.

What could be causing the problem??

Air in system, brake line flex?

The discs could be bad might be cheap pads fitted, flex in the rubber pipes or just the normal poor brakes on a D3.

How long since you changed the brake fluid?

I like to do mine every 2 years - not sure what the LR service interval is.

Thanks

Change of brake fluid may be needed as not done since I have had the car in three years.

Pads and discs are in good shape.

If your car is a 05 as your avatar states, I'd also look to change your break hoses (about every 6 years). You may also want to check your brake lines as they can corrode on these cars, especially.

Look for bulges in the hoses, or cracked or brittle casings.

What year is your Disco., there was a Vehicle recall with oil getting to Servo & Master Cylinder. Might give these symptoms.
