Take the key out of the ignition. Notice the handbrake light is still illuminated (car still awake). You need to wait 2-5 minutes depending on if the engine has been run for the car to sleep. Handbrake light will go out - car is now 'asleep'.

Details should be in the manual, also there is some icons on a label by the battery. Hard to find on the forum given how much it needs to be done. Probably in the wiki but didn't look.

Obviously you can't use this procedure if your handbrake light does no illuminate when you turn the key in the ignition.

I have just changed mine this morning and no it doesn't wake up if you pop the bonnet.

Just pull the lever, open up, then wait till the red P goes out and away you go. Thumbs Up

The car won't lock with the bonnet open. I'm not sure if the car will be fully asleep if left unlocked but anyway it will be enough to change the battery (after the parking brake light goes out).

As a side note, you can fool it to lock with the bonnet open. Just use a suitable screwdriver or something to push the bonnet catches down. Then just pull the release handle in the passenger footwell to open them up again allowing you to close the bonnet normally.

If the car was asleep before unlocking that's OK. Unlocking the car doesn't wake up systems that don't like power being cut at the wrong time.
