Tyre Insurance

Afternoon

I recently changed from a D3 to D4 and have been offered tyre/wheel insurance.
I've never had this before so was wondering what the uptake has been from others.
It does appear open to abuse I must admit.

my ex had it on a Merc', paid out on one tyre then argued the toss every time after that. Wasn't worth the hassle in the end. If she could possibly drive better maybe wouldn't have the issues we did Rolling Eyes

at end of the day my view is no insurer is going to be 'out of pocket' whatever first opinion of how easy it looks in your favour

Never taken it personally on a new car as in my view it's just another commission for the salesman Whistle

I have tyre insurance, not from the dealer though - that would be mad.

Mainly from the sport where each tyre was £275, but equally warming to know 10 or so tyres are covered.

I don't have wheel insurance though

Generally I think if it's too good to be true then it is but after two years should my car happen to drive over some inappropriately placed screws then it may be a good thing.
It's the dealers parent company that is providing this through a broker so I assume there will be cheaper options out there.

I had 1 tyre get a nail in the sport before last, 1 day before I sold it Censored

I fortunately found a nearly new one (identical in tread make etc) for £100, but I nearly had to replace the tyre just to sell it.

£275 wasted. Now with tyre insurance less than one tyre, I could have claimed and it would have been free. Since then, I have it.

Check the small print, normally they have to be the original tyres fitted to the car when bought, I got caught out by that Censored . They never said it when I bought the car and the tyres only had 4-5mm on them, plus they don't usually accept claims below a certain tread depth. Censored again!!!!
