Do I need to change the spare?

I am considering fitting 245/70/R17 tyres. Will I need to also change my spare which is the original 235/70/R17. Any advice will be much appreciated.

OEM size is 235/70 17, is that what your spare is? Never heard of anyone using those sizes on a D3. Confused

Technically yes you will want to change the spare.

But if you don't you can still get home... maybe in limp mode because the car feels something is not right with one wheel smaller, but it will move at least Whistle

Thanks man. Just had another thought. Will the larger circumference tyre fit in the spare wheel housing?

Drove 25 miles home on 3 20inch rims and my spare 18inch.

No dramas and no suspension warnings etc.

It just sorted itself out.

I think the 245 might fit in the spare wheel well, if not just reduce the psi and carry a pump. But if I had a rim with a legal 235 on it, I would be perfectly happy with that as a spare. Different if you were on an overland trip etc. Remember that the o/e spacesaver works fine regardles of the size of rims fitted to the Disco.

If you do fit 245's, your insurance company should be advised, as technically it's a modification to the standard specification of your vehicle. Sounds petty I know, but better safe than sorry Thumbs Up

Thanks LT. I was really wanting to avoid buying a 245 spare. I'm also currently awaiting a call back from the insurance company to find out if they will ok the change.

FWIW I'm running 265/70/17 tyres but still got the 235/70/17 spare. However I never used it so can't say if the car complains in any way Mr. Green

Thanks nighthawk. I'm still waiting for the insurance company to get back to me. What is it with these people? Do they not realise that there are companies out there who will quite happily accept the change!

My current insurers have just been in touch to say that they won't accept the 245/70/17 tyre. However, a call to A-plan insurance who appear on this very forum has solved the problem and cheaper!
