Tachymeter in KM and miles
A friend of mine is also thinking to take his Discovery 3 to the UK and does not have the miles per hour on the tachymeter.
Changing the whole instruments is rather expensive so he was asking me if there are stickers or if it is possible to open the tachymeter and change the dial with one that includes not on km per hours but also miles per hours.
Is that possible? Does anybody know who might be able to do it?
I know that Land Rover will not even issue the CoC if not changed (they required me to do confirm I had miles per hours on mine)It takes all sorts (to make a world).

Can't you just have mph in the digital display? I'm sure I remember dialling up kph on the digital display when I used to take my D3 to Europe, but I don't know if every version could do that?

I have never noticed that you can read instant speed on the lcd screen
Where could you read that? in the LCD in the speedo dial?It takes all sorts (to make a world).

so you can only change the whole instrument cluster.
Sounds crazy as it is just the dial and could be an easy fix.
Is the instrument cluster sealed? It takes all sorts (to make a world).

I assume you're talking about a tachograph... I think this thread is about the speedo...26 and on the 4th LR..

I have probably generated confusion
He needs to change the dial indicated by the arrow (only kmh) to the one below

I imported a sports car from Germany, and it only has a KPH reading on the speedo. This has passed MOT every year for the past 13 years I've owned it. So I don't think this is a legal requirement to have a MPH speedo? I could be wrong, and therefore been driving "illegally" for the past 13 years?
Cheers

To change the speedo face to a MPH the unit would need to be recalibrated. Its only the trip computer that can change between KLM and MPH and there is no speed reading built into this part of the unit. I think John P is right as there is a lot of cars in the UK that are imported and i can not see people changing the speedo over to a MPH one, why in Europe they don't mark them with MPH i don't know, do the manufactures think that a car sold over here will never go to the UK but UK cars only go to Europe, even the american cars i have seen come with KLM If your friend is really unsure then you only need to mark certain speeds on the speedo i.e. 30, 50, 60 and 70 MPH but really only the 30 and 70 are the main ones, the rest can be worked out just by looking and being sensible.2015 D4 HSE LUX Kaikoura Stone(sold)

Land Rover and DVLA has requested me to confirm/prove I had mph (that is the assumption also for my friend)
Maybe is not a requirement for all or it wasn't in the past

I know you can display the speed in kph or mph in the message centre on a D4 (just by changing the trip units in settings)... but was I imagining that I could do the same in the D3? I thought I remembered driving around Europe with kph on the central display years ago?
Maybe I'm just getting old?

Same in Ireland all older cars show MPH and all newer show KMPH except any imported from UK still show MPH But no problems with having either for our NCT (MOT)
I'm in Ireland and my '06 Discovery shows only KMPH and the Odometer reads Km the Trip under that reads Km... But under the rev counter it shows MPG, Range in Miles and trip in Km. I know at one stage it showed every thing in Km.... Any idea how to switch back to all KM.

Based on my experience that will not be checked at the MOT but will be required for registration
So no way to change the dial?It takes all sorts (to make a world).

You could change the dial over but stripping it down to do is more hassle than its worth i would say, and then you have to get the needle back on in the right place and it would still be reading the speed wrong. The main problem is in the calibration between the MPH and KPH. A MPH clock might fit in and work straight away but it might have to be coded to the car, you would need to speak to one of the electrical gods on the forum to confirm this.
You could try a place like this www.eurodashservices.co.uk to have it converted,i don't have anything to do with the company as it was a quick internet search, and there could be more places out there to try.
Also i would have thought that he would have the CoC as all cars need them in europe, mines a 08 and i have it 2015 D4 HSE LUX Kaikoura Stone(sold)
