Johnny55, it's evident you're relatively new here. Welcome.
You appear to have experienced a problem that several owners of later D3s have been unfortunate enough to experience on here. It's a problem that Land Rover are trying to brush under the carpet.
Depending on how fast you were going, there's a very strong possibility that your engine is damaged beyond economical repair. The problem lies with the oil pump casting on later cars (2007MY onwards) not being strong enough to cope with the stresses of tensioning the cam belt.
Have a read at this:
http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic107112.html
I think I am right in saying that the majority of oil pump castings have failed shortly after having the timing belt replaced. The example above was on a very low mileage D3, though, which goes to show that it's not necessarily a new timing belt that causes this.
I don't know how many miles your D3 has done but - from your profile - it looks a fairly recent model.
Bodsy is arranging to have farmerboy's oil pump analysed by an expert in metallurgy with a view to raising the profile of this matter to Land Rover.
To date, some owners have been successful in receiving 50% contributions from Land Rover towards new engines. Many argue that this is not enough when it's quite obvious that the component in question is not "fit for purpose".
Bodsy has been through this process, as have a few others on here. There's no doubt your failed oil pump will be of interest to the forensic investigation but I think you also need to let Land Rover know that this has happened to your car. They will probably ask you to take it to a Land Rover dealer who will then charge you 50% of the cost of replacing the engine. And then some for ancillary bits.
You never know, Land Rover may even have a dedicated hotline for this problem by now?

Firstly - sorry to hear about your problem.... I was lucky enough to replace the oil pump casing (the bit that the tensioner is bolted to) just before it failed. A couple of nasty cracks were evident when it it was removed - phew...
I emailed Landrover about the cracks in the casing and was surprised to get a phone call very soon afterwards... it was a lady called Sue Beasley from customer support and her first question was "which dealer did the work?" I informed her that it was done by an independent (Flack - a site sponsor) and she immediately became quite dismissive and stated that there was no way they would make any contribution towards the new oil pump casing (not surprised really). However I was surprised that she denied that is was a "known issue" and also that she considered it fit for purpose as it had lasted nearly 7 years despite the car having only covered 35,000 miles. The call was very polite but my feeling was that she was not interested and that if I cannot afford to repair it I should not have bought it...
I hope it has not destroyed the engine - best of luck with it... 2007 Base D3 - Buckingham Blue

No idea of part numbers as there is nothing on them and as Geoff has pointed out he got them for me, I had to wait three months for them as well..

Johnny55 wrote:with the tensioner failure but cam belt not broken - do any of you know if this will mean a engine rebuild ?? garage is not confident that repair of this tensioner and a new cam belt kit will get the engine started again??? or do think its fooked???
I think it will be foobared I'm afraid. You definitely need to register the failure with Landrover. They won't do anything without them checking it at a LR dealer.
