Do all threads have to end with a thanks for the replies?

Perhaps they should be ended with these pair?

????

but the original question was the Value to you the owner putting a new engine into a vehicle that isn't

it isn't Worth any more ?....& should it be ?

getting to that state & its cost that has incurred an amount of cash (presumably from you)
Its value to you (& anybody else) is the same - it has cost you an amount that in in sensible terms is unnecessary unless that is you enjoy spending money improving something beyond what other people see as being realistic. To me any vehicle that is sold as having a "new" engine only some mile/kilometers ago (see other threads on this) rings warning bells.

An engine is essential unlike bling, trim or toys bolted on..... that surely involves taste & that is very much a personal thing & what you perceive as being better or different (& possibly ego based or driven thing)...not usually related to Cost, Value or Worth.

So, thanks for all of the replies! And yes, I'm afraid I do only get onto the forum every few days.....!

@character: It is was a brand new, full engine and will be sold with the balance of the 12 mth warranty (which I presume is transferrable?).

@maddogsetc: I simply called LRCS, explained the situation (which was that the engine simply died while doing 70 on the M6) and that, despite the car having 147k on the clock, it had a full LRSH and I didn't think that was appropriate. It took them a few days to get back to me but no additional persuasion - they just offered the 50%. I tried for more but (understandably) got told where to go.

@discocity: Time for a D4 Very Happy

@BLFarrar: value changes over time, but in a financial sense the best indicator of fair value at the point of sale is the transaction cost. Call it cost, value or worth, I am simply trying to understand how many reddies I am going to receive in exchange for my D3.

Overall, I sense that I will get very few additional reddies for the fact it has a new engine, and that it may be easier or harder to sell depending on the buyer's perspective. The car has had two owners, has a full LRSH and I have a very honest face so hopefully when I do come to list it the new engine won't be a negative!

Thanks again all, amusing and informative in equal measure Thumbs Up

If you got...

50% with a not new vehicle with over 100k miles
the goodwill gesture of LR is incredible...
maybe when they inspected it they saw something that shouldn't have been...

today on here someone was calling their D3/4 a pile of brown stuff.....'cos of a part failure
there has to be wear & tear....but major component failure (like an engine) as opposes to just wearing out or not being looked after is a lot different.

To me if I were buying your vehicle I would pay you the going rate......knowing that a major wear / potential for failure component (the engine) was unworn with a whopping life ahead of it.
To me would be worth buying.

Now listed on For Sale & Wanted. Eventually decided to replace with an S-Max for the wife (she wanted a smaller car to do the school run in) and a Boxter for me Very Happy . Will rejoin the disco family eventually, hopefully the S-Max will be ready to trade in when the Disco5 arrives.......!
