any news on TDV8 TDV6 replacement?
As in title, any news on this?
I'm thinking of doing this (or let someone do this to my D3)
Been a little quiet, or have I missed something?
Kind regards
henry

Hi HJ,
The word is that the TDV8 won't physically fit in the D3.

Hi,
I was under the impression that if it fits the RRsport, it should fit the D3 as well...
might be wrong, might be my imagination, but wasn't there a topic on putting the TDV8 in as a replacement of the TDV6?

I heard that the Disco and RRS will have the TDV6 and the TDV8 will only be a FFRR engine. It is a marketing thing for the FFRR.

My understanding is that to fit the TDV8 in a D3/4 would require extensive body work mods, as it is longer than the V6 variant.
The TDV8 engine is also heavier, so the front suspension would require some kind of upgrade too
That's without considerable alterations to the electrical systems and software to get it to actually run.
On a recent LR Experience event my instructor said that the TDV6 engine was far better for off road use as it is less 'punchy'Never get mad - get even !!
06 D3 now gone to family member and still going strong at 265k

The engine bay of the RRS and D3 is the same, same layout, same everything - so as mentioned above if V8 fitted in the RRS it will fit in the Disco.
Length and weight of engine is not an issue - noting that V8 petrols are fitted to Discos.
It is for marketing reasons that the TDV8 was not fitted to the D3 just as the TDV8 was dropped from the RRS and is now only a FFRR engine.

Marketing and then Euro emmissions regulations which is why it is no longer in the range at all.
New TD V8 in the FFRR is a different beast to the old one which was a couple of Freelander four cylinders stuck together.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

The 4.4 TDV8 is from the same family of engine as the 3.6 TDV8. The block is slightly higher due to the longer stroke and the engine is slightly longer due to the different valve drive arrangement. I under stood the V8 is a development of the V6 but with a 90 degree bank instead of the 60 degree bank of the V6. Bore and stroke is the same in both engines.
Certainly with a 90 degree bank and extra block height the 4.4 TDV8 will be wider than the 3.6 TDV8 and may not fit into the standard RRS/D4 - but then nothing would be impossible.

a new TDV6 is about 5000£ (if I'm not mistaken)
a complete TDV8 conversion with a engine from an accident would be about the same price....
and about 5000£ more to get it in and running, or did I make a budgetwise mistake?
