The speed rating is not a worry as i can vary the speed with the right hand pedal.....
will only be using them off road, and as i live in Wiltshire only have to travel a couple of miles till I'm on the plain.
doubt they'd ever see more than 40mph.

found the maxxis bighorns at £430 posted, have you used them much yet Allan??
They were fitted just before Christmas and have been used at several pay & play sites, can't fault them so far.
Where did you see them for £430?GAP IID Pro Multi Vehicle Defender L316 2007-2015 - Discovery 3 - Discovery 4 - Discovery Sport L550 - Freelander 2 - Range Rover Evoque L538 - Range Rover L322 - Range Rover L405 - Range Rover Sport L320 - Range Rover Sport L494 Electrical Fault Diagnostics

I agree with you Brian, but your insurance company might not. Always worth checking, IMO.

Just a reminder LR fitted Q rated tyres on the D3 then S rated
namely the Goodyear MTR in 255-55-19
Load rating way more important as the UK speed limit is 70mph

But there is more to it than just speed rating just because the UK law max speed is 70 MPH .
The tyre is designed with torque and power developed by the cars etc etc.
High performance cars and motorbikes are capable of 170 mph plus but your hardly going to fit a lower speed rating on fast powerful car as it may rip the carcass off the rim even with sticking to below the 70 mph but if you boot it 0.70 .
Speed ratings weight rating torque wrench settings are all there for reason not just for some to turn a blind eye to it .

I think in some peoples case the speed rating would be as important as any other. But personally i know i won't be using these for any more than maybe 3-4 miles at a time on the road. And that will be in town driving, so 30mph limits and no booting it.
I'd love to be able to go and spend the £600 on a set of BFG's but sadly I just don't have the means at the moment.
I think maybe what I should have asked was has anyone used the cheaper remould M/Ts and do they work ok in the mud. Thats the gist of it, If someone has experience of them off road that says the minute they see some rocks they'll have a fit and split into they're component parts then please come forward.

Its understandable situation and but if worst comes to worst and this is not scare mongering the insurance implications could come to be a bigger head ache than the cost of £600.
The plain and it users will soon see a dramatic change from Wiltshire police force with a lot of spot checks with VOSA making sure trucks are insured road worthy and legal.
Is it worth the risk I am not so sure anyway I sign off this topic
